I can now officially report that after nearly 1/3 of a can of stella I considered myself drunk enough to take my laptop apart.
It is now on the dining table in more pieces than the manufacturer intended - I have blown gently on all important looking bits, and I am about to stick the battery in and see what happens! 8-)

It is now on the dining table in more pieces than the manufacturer intended - I have blown gently on all important looking bits, and I am about to stick the battery in and see what happens! 8-)

I BLOOMIN WELL FIXED IT!
Now, I have three screws left over, Mandy1964 gets one, because she identified the heat sink paste as the possible problem, Rainbows sitcky seconds because she asked so nicely, so I have one left.
Who wants a screw then?
One small question though - I didn't happen to have any heat sink paste in my toolbox, so I used Halfords Copper Brake Disc Grease instead. Think it will be OK? :lol: :lol:
And there was one mildly amusing moment - after I put it back together it switched on beeeeeeeaaaaautifully, but I kept getting the error message 'operating system not found'. I cursed VERY loudly and nipped up stairs and gathered all my CD roms and prepared to re-load shedloads of software!. - Only to get back down stairs and notice that the one thing I had forgotten to do - was put the hard drive back in.
Right - off to entertain the in-laws now, and drink lots of Stella - But I shall be back.
