is girlie moaning by the way.
Did you know that on the first 5 pages there are no less than 6 locked threads??? Nearly all are by newbies, or have turned into a heated argument as caused by newbies.
Surely you all read the AUP before you joined??? No??? well it shows, and it's getting beyond a joke now. The mods are all working overtime to keep this site the way we all know and love, and people are spoiling it for us. i'm not saying newbies are bad people, im saying you need to take a good look at what we can and cannot do on this site.
more and more regs are disappearing because of this patheticness, and we're another couple who will soon be following suit - we joined this site for a good time - not to see thread upon thread being locked, or people ripping ads to shreds, or people discussing sex drugs.
its not big, its not clever, and frankly i can see a few people apart from us getting pissed off with it.
Sometimes being on here is like being at the docks when an ocean liner comes into port. Everyone seems to be getting on, excited and I wonder how many people do read the AUP in effect? Sometimes you have to look at context and all sorts of things on forums. Some offer loads of subjects and some few. Some you HAVE to answer, but again you may well go ages without. I recently logged on for 4 days but did not post or pm anyone. Maybe it is how it goes, and coincidently it happens to a few at the same time. It has been an extremely difficult few months for me, and maybe others to begin a subject that gets replies. I generally try to spread the subjects diversely, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. Sometimes what you mean is not how it gets typed and you get slapped or told off, but that is how we learn. Maybe along the flow of life, the edy of input comes and goes, and as in the outside world, someone is ALWAYS pizzing on someones bonfire. I could never be a mod, because I have not got the patients to be honest, and would possibly get banned myself!
Lou,
I can see what you mean but really it's the site's problem not the posters. I know they should read the AUP and posting guidelines but if they don't they don't. ( How many times have you read the Licence Agreement on a piece of software?)
My sympathy goes to the mods who have to deal with it and our support follows for dealing with obvious miscreants swiftly and summarily.
I think some of the regs around here have been a bit brusque with some new people and either antagonised them or driven them off. I think we should try and allow them time to acclimatise a bit more. That's not condoning unacceptable behaviour which must be dealt with immediately but us accommodating a new viewpoint expressed in an awkward way. We've all done it at some stage.
When all is said and done the site is the site and we either like it or not. We can only hope that the magnificent job done so far by the mods in keeping it enjoyable can continue. But we have no right to expect it to be so.
Sorry, just my (current) point of view.
TE is quite right in many of his observations. I guess it all boils down to looking at yourself and seing what you possibly did wrong. It must too be daunting to drop into forums for some people. Maybe we should have an adopt a newcomer thread, and have some hand holding exercises. I guess to we are all guilty of running before we can walk at times. Posting can be like the first words in a conversation at a party, get it right and everyone wants to listen and talk, get it wrong and its coats on and off home ealy?
We now have almost 12,000 members and they're joining the site at a rate of over 50 per day. A lot decide not to make any posts at all but can you imagine the speed the topics would disappear if every new member decided to make a "hello I'm new here" post. I keep expecting the rate of new joiners to slow down but it justs gets faster and faster.
Considering the rate that new people are joining it's generally quite well behaved.
Steve
Well, i just dont think the site has the easy going atmosphere it had before. And if you want my honest opinion, (if you dont then stop reading) i think people joining this site has been largely to do with media coverage of swinging, and i personally dont think its a good way to begin using a site such as this. in the last few months there has been a significant increase in the amount of swinging related tv shows, magazine and paper articles etc, and i think people joining out of curiosity because of what theyve seen and not an interest in swinging itself is wrong.
I believe in free speech, and if anyone wants to disagree and have their say then fine. i didnt intend to start a heated debate, i just voiced what i thought.
I'm not saying i dont want people to join the forum, all i'm saying is, why cant people just be a little more observant and take the time to read the rules???
And i remember only too well being a newbie and flying off the handle at something within about 2 weeks of being here!!! But i'd read the rules and the AUP and everything, so it wasnt as if i was just picking a thread out of nowhere and pis*ing everyone off!!
You and Clare are great too Steve babes, but this site isnt what it was when we joined and we're finding it harder and harder to enjoy it.
