Hello everyone from a very orange/tanned/peeling Corriesmile
I thought I would share with you what I have done in the last week. Well I went to Egypt for a week to Sharme el Sheikh all by myself    lol
Okay you may say so what ??? Well this is the first time I have ever gone away by myself, I am petrified of flying and the place was bombed 3 weeks ago
What I learnt however is really the reason i am putting this up for anyone who is thinking about travelling alone and wondering what it is like to be alone - bloddy great!!!!!!!
I had already been away camping with 20 people the week before so I am not totally Billy no mates but I really wanted to do this for me. I have wanted to do it for years but never had the nerve. I booked on the Saturday and just did it. Getting on the plane and dealing with a 5 hour flight and turbulence half way through was my first nightmare. I thought about why hadn't a written a will etc etc as I sat there frozen in the chair but I got through it!
When I got to the resort which was all inclusive I thought I had ended up in paradise - it was beautiful and came with free massage, diving lessons and haircut lol. I was like a big kid all excited and just talked to any one and everyone!!!!!! I couldnt believe how bold I could be.
Now the other side of this is that I could have come home with at least 5 husbands. Apparently though it is February which is a key wooing time in Egypt of English single women hahahahaha. Many get married after a week - whats that all about !!!!!
My week was fantastic because I got over so many fears - flying , being alone, coping with strangers. I read 5 books which was brilliant, I stopped drinking after day 2 because it was so hot and I was high on the atmosphere. I didnt pull because I didnt need to and didnt want to - oh to say NO thanks with a smile.
If you havent been to Egypt GO its great and the security was spot on. I will go back and take the family.
If you are still thinking is it safe as a woman to travel alone well I dont think I am a minger I just know how to be aware of my own personal security ( okay when I have had too much to drink maybe not but thats why I did not drink ).
Love Corrie :)

So glad you had a good time, I have holidayed/ for the last 4 years on my own, and never really had any problems, that a firm no wont solve!
When are you off again and where??
Well done Corrie!! Really pleased you had a fab time :high-smile:
A friend of mine did what you did and travelled alone to the Himalayas
She had just come out of a long term relationship in which she was daily made to feel inferior, so after she had kicked his sorry arse out, she packed her bags and off she went.
After trekking in Nepal with an assorted group of people, married, single, young student types, people in their 40's and 50's, she then spent a week in a Buddhist Temple contemplating her life.
If you're anything like her, you will have come back to find yourself far more confident now. Exceedingly happier with life and so much more content with yourself, knowing you can do anything you want to, if you set your mind to it biggrin

Well done Corrie !
I have been to Sharm El Shiekh and Mexico (also all inclusive) on my own and found by the end of the week I knew everyone in the hotel, people seem to take more interest or want to "take you under thier wing" when you are a lone female, and I don't mean this is in a pitying way, probably more to do with curiousity!
Seriously though, it is so empowering, you realise if you can holiday on your own then the world is your lobster!!!! lol
I hope you get to do it again soon x
WB Corrie wave
I don't remember signing your Leave Pass!!   confused :?

You are just blooming in ya self!!! biggrin
I must admit wanting a holiday lately quite a lot and I have travelled alone - in fact toured the USA and Canada for three monhs on my own. Just want to see some of Eastern Europe just all the deals and stuff are based on two sharing and lots more money for just one. And being in a foreign place with nobody to talk to in your own language I find a little daunting it has to be said.
Must do it soon though.
redface surprisedops:

Hiya Sarah
Well its great to see so many people have tried it and had postive experiences. Now I have done it once I will do it again but wont be for a while. I have to get my work head back on and earn some cash lol. However I might try one of these walking holidays or a holiday where you do something eg. excavation work as sunbathing is great but I want to try other things - you know how it is start slowly then before you know it I will be going to deepest Peru to find Paddington Bear! lol
Good tips for single holidays are welcome though. I did the sunbathing thing as knew it would be safe.

Thing is there are so many people to talk to but yes deals are crass - I paid a supplement of 150 pounds which seems unfair but life is. So do it. I believe I have one life and if I leave it with the 'If only.....' on my death bed then thats my own fault for not being brave enough so thats why to me although this has taken me forever to do it has been uplifting. I wish I had done it now years ago smile Though think some people who have been on holiday with me might say 'we wish you had too ' hahahahahahahahahaha
Oh and sorry Sarge (slaps herself) should have asked for a pass out lol

Don't give in to him like that! He'll want you to un-holiday it all!!
Good to see you went Corrie and good to see you back!
good one corrie
I am male but been away by myself for last 10 years.....to avoid the high single supplements..try getting flight only and sorting hotel when over there. All I do is buy the Rough Guide book, to where ever I'm going, and they list hotels and stuff. Or one of the best people to help are taxi drivers. Quite often I have landed in airport and just asked the taxi driver for half decent hotel. Try the Far East next time. Over there it is real easy to get around and cheap accommadation. Also loads of people just travelling and so plenty of others on there own.
Anyway congratulations and heres to your next adventure..
