I was trundeling down a Cheshire stretch of the M6 that was very busy but certainly running at full speed recently and passed under a bridge that had a survelence van complete with camera on it, they were obviously checking for out of road tax cars as at the next entrance slip road there was 3 patrol cars poised to spring into action and pull offenders on to the service station that was a mile or so down the road.
However what got me was that no more than half a mile and in full view of the patrol cars was a broken down vehicle on the hard shoulder with the driver sat inside, (not a safe place to be) Now I know the police were on an exercise and would have been asigned to the camera van, but surely one of them could have driven the short distance down to the broken down vehicle and advised the driver to get out of the car or prehaps sat behind it with flashing lights on to make the hazard more visable.
I really would have thought safe gaurding a member of the public from a very likely accident was much more important than catching someone who had let their car tax overun by 3 days dunno
with the increasing amount of CCTV cameras, that broken down car was zoomed in on, found to be fully road legal, therefore no problem
if a car is found without tax disc, it is then no longer road legal, which means in the event of an accident, it wouldnt be covered on the insurance
from the POV of the local constabulary, it means it allows them a quicker chance of hitting their targets, and to justify the depolyment of manpower
no, im not cynical......
I thought the Police's primary role was to protect the public and thus they should have attended to the driver of broken vehicle and advised hin tnot to remain in the vehicle.
I stand to be corrected though

yes wink
So much for that DVLA computer they spent god knows how much of our money advertising on the TV then. Were they lying when they said they didn't need to look for out of date tax discs anymore?
Ah but Cheshire police think it's ok to wait in your car in the event of a breakdown, so in their eyes they did have their priorities right.
The safest place is on the grass or verge as far as possible away from the carriageway. If you are approached by an unknown person get into the car and lock all doors.
You may choose to wait in the car instead of on the verge. Only accept help from persons summoned to help.

Which is probably why they didn't do anything.

Well if it was they themselves were breaking the law....
The hard shoulder is for emergency use only............Not for parking up waiting for RFL dodgers.. rolleyes
