Usually smile
I have just been reliably informed that a stanley knife is normally all that is required to remove it.... Whether this is for the strechy belt or the suspender belt I have no idea though dunno

right as steve said take a 3/8's drive ratchet and stick it in the 3/8's drive hole and turn simple as that biggrin
footnote for meaty the big girls blouse wink : a pished PK has just come in took one look at the pic and told me what should be done and guess what she was right......this from a lady who once asked me if blown light bulbs still use electric if turned on

Me a techie - not a mechie ;-)

Sorry cu.. I did not realise your post contained a link ! But The "three pegs" mentioned , would only serve to "lock" the motor from turning and so avoid having to reset the timing, still its a valid point!

The 3 pegs will only allow themselves to be inserted once all the timing marks are aligned..

Just wanted to get me point across that I know for a fact is right as it is the same technic used on most cars and even trucks that I have worked on...........the torx bit holds the pully in place but to slacken the tensioner all you have to do is use the square hole simple as that smile

Thats exactly where my advice was coming from...
After 20years I do know a little wink
I don't doubt that is not correct, but maybe I am not understanding, If the wheel ( in which you insert into the offset square a 3/8 socket and turn) is fixed in the centre by a bolt then how else will it turn but round?

Ya bloody old fart you've got 10 years on me bolt
bloody thread hyjackers :giggle:
Will give it another go tomorrow (and for the slightly confused, the tensioner is on a pivot arm and in theory you just pull it out of the way, except for the lack of space and general engine crustyness mad )
Stop being a tight sod pissing about with knackered old cars and get a life, a new car or a girlfriend.
Ok lol go for the achievable and get a new car

Ta, on it's way kiss
Spray the whole area in WD-40, I reckeon it's all siezed up.
Did a passat diesel last week and I was a nightmare, siezed solid, plenty of WD and a big bar and loads of tea!!.
wasn't seized up, i was looking at a fixed roller, not the tensioner. finally found the 3/8" peg after jacking the engine to up as far as possible, then it just needed two extension bars a knuckle joint and a ratchet to get at the little fecker mad
Aircon belt off, securing pegs lined up, just got to shift the crank roller and i can get the cambelt off :bounce:
