when you boot up next time, go into windows safe mode and run all the antivirus/spyware stuff then reboot back into windows and see if that works. We had to do that once and haven't had a problem since.

Have you tried going to add and remove prorammes to see if your son has accidentally added any sharewear when he has been d/ling music? Such as gator etc
Spybot is definately the business;
download it, read the manual and run the Detect and destroy option; it will find many spyware in your PC's registry and will also Immunises the PC against all these sites;
Point of caution: you must ensure that it ingores the SH cookies (small tracker programes which keep the history of your internet visits, mostly for helpful reasons).
If you haven't already, I suggest you go to and download Spybot.
Once installed select the "Immunize" option and you shouldn't be bothered with Spyware again. If you run it every now and again, any spyware that does get through the net will be deleted.
I've got a couple of questions but I don't know if I have enough knowledge to put the questions intelligently.
I replaced my computer a month or two ago and, basically, it was a heap of junk but under my on-site warranty I had a new hard drive installed and since then no problems with it. On the advice of the computer technician I downloaded free Microsoft Anti-Spyware. Also when I switch on there is a notice about Norton Anti-virus which says that I will get it free for three months and will then be asked to pay for it.
My old computer was protected by something called AVG which invited me to update it for free every fortnight.
If I look up AVG - will it affect Norton Anti-virus? Will the two programs work against each other. So that's really one question, yes? The second question is about Microsoft Anit-Virus. Does it work away without me knowing - or do I have to run the program every now and again.
Sorry
