I'm sitting here listening to local radio and they've just had Elliott Randall on, introducing 'Reelin' In the Years' by playing the intro down the phone line.
Apparently it's Jimmy Page's favourite guitar solo.
Today, this is mine
What's yours?
Anything by John Dowland played on guitar:
'...If music and sweet poetry agree,
As they must needs, the sister and the brother,
Then must the love be great 'twixt thee and me,
Because thou lovest the one, and I the other.
Dowland to thee is dear, whose heavenly touch
Upon the lute doth ravish human sense...'
Or is that not the kind of thing you meant? ;)
Pink Floyd Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
It takes me to a long time ago.

Couldn't agree more. Especially 'My Lady Lady Hunsdon's Puffe'
"...Thou lovest to hear the sweet melodious sound,
That Phoebus lute, the queen of music makes;
And I in deep delight am chiefly drown'd..."
Impossible to narrow down to one but this has to be near the top of my list.
Peter Green, The Supernatural

good choices
Just so many great tracks to choose from, it is hard to pick a winner.
My love of rock started as an eight year old following my older Brothers lead.
Led Zep have to be the all time favorite group and without doubt the most successful rock band of all time.
I saw the original Zep three times,so am lucky as most are not even old enough to remember them when they were all alive.
Trower in my view IS the white Hendrix and for me the more Blues stuff like Gary Moore and Trower, and even a lot of Zep songs, fill my music collection which is vast.
Over the years though my tastes have become a lot more varied, and have over tracks ranging from heavy rock to well the Osmonds.redface
But there is still nothing like a great blues song played by Trower or Moore or Page....certainly true legends on a guitar.
If I had to pick one track that stands out from all others and was pushed, it would I suppose would be Stairway to Heaven....a timeless masterpiece.

And in honour of Rob's screenname, here's a Glastonbury goodie from the world's best Guns and Roses tribute band (as they claim they might have been if they couldn't write songs as good as this)...

unfortunately not. i remember my sister went. its up on you tube. looks amazing. anyway thought it was the stones headlining as the stage is the stones mouth /tongue.
Stones were headlining but 10cc were on between them and Skynyrd. They were very good too, finished with a rocking version of Rubber Bullets. Ah, ain't nostalgia a wonderful thing!

zappa's watermelon in easter hay
and the stranglers' version of walk on by
also jerry garcia has some fine moments.

That's because Watermelons in Easter hay also has Steve Vai on it as well as FZ
Or where it all began............THE man on a guitar, and a man who the likes had never seen before.
Even Clapton bowed to the man.
I dont suppose this counts? wink
