I left school in 1981, here in sunny Dorsetshire we never saw such hardships.
I am also of the view that the lady and her government were not at the heart of the problems described above.

Of course you didn't. You've admitted you were in Dorset. How many foundries, mines, shipyards were in Dorset? It's the 'stockbroker belt'. The only hardship was maybe not having petrol money for your Porche.
Are you saying that hardship was the reserve of only a selected group of people?

With respect Kent, she isn't just "an old lady" though is she? Surely once a person has been such a controversial and divisive public figure then they are a legitimate target for satire? As such, laughing at someone having an article of clothing ripped off is, in my opinion, more offensive.
dunno

With respect ...dancing on someones grave.... isn`t satire either !!!
No it isn't...........but when looking at the whole sentance it is. Quite funny I thought.......while making someone think why and what are the motives of the sentance.
A perfect example of satire.

Just show's how we can all view things in a very different way.
When I was growing up my Mum would chastise us kids for wishing anyone harm. She would recount the storey of when she was young and a young man ran past her as she was eating a portion of fish and chips and stole a chip, as he did this she called after him, "Hope you choke on it" with the next mouthful of fish she got a bone stuck in her throat, which was very unpleasant to have removed by the doctor.
This kind of thing was drummed into us as kids, therefore when I see this sort of thing written or spoken, I frown upon it, it does not sit well with me, just because of the way I was brought up

Don't think we did have a Porsche, although they do look very nice, even this diesel one.
We did have several Massey Ferguson's though. Not sure I have ever met a stockbroker.

bet it runs on red diesel.....

I guessed she must still be alive, cos we'd have had a street party by now if she'd kicked it? I don't often wish people dead, but I'm fancying a bit of a dance and her grave's as good a place as any. ;)

You may get your chance sooner than you thought
Blue...............she ain't called the Iron Lady for nothing.
A classic iconic speech from the great lady herself.

A PM with real balls, not like a lot of the tossers with no balls since.

Or alternatively, a speech written for her by the playwright Ronald Millar, paraphrasing Christopher Fry? dunno

You know what Robbo? I've just Googled a number of iconic Spitting Image scenes voiced by a bloke who used to go to my school with Maggie pissing up against a urinal, and you know what? Even with safe search off there's nowt to be had. Go figure? confused

can I say here...I hated Mrs Thatcher and what she stood for. The yuppie type ...the I'm alright jack attitude.... the poll tax, ...the kiling off of british industry is what I remember her for !!
However as a now frail elderly lady, I wish her well and a happy birthday.
I so tried to keep out of this thread.
...but failed.
The fact she is so reviled by some and loved by others is in part a measure of her impact. I believe her own party felt the same way about her.
For those who believe that shipbuilding, mining, steel et al...would have survived if it weren't for Thatcher are deluding themselves. The demise of those industries sadly was down to over zealous unions, poor management and short term thinking by government compounded by globalisation as a result the inequalities of an exploited world.
She freed the economy for those who wished to take advantage of it , sadly, it was those who had most that tightened their hold on power and demonstrated that there really is no limit to the greed of some individuals.
She failed abysmally at recognising that true wealth can only ever come from maufacturing for it is this process that adds real value to an economy and therefore she failed to create an environment that planned for and delivered real jobs.(So has every government since)
She also started the deregulation of the financial markets ...as she believed thats where the country would derive its wealth. The greatest fraud in history has been the result, but to be fair it has been allowed to happen on the watch of others.
She stood our corner in Europe and I am sure if it were not for her we would have been exploited by Europe even more savagely than we were.
Angel or Devil ...I suspect she was both equally ...but never moderate.
