Happy 85th Birthday Maggie.
Here's to the next milestone of 90.
I heard a cracking joke t'other day: "It's Maggie Thatcher's birthday ans what's on the news? Miners and Scousers: she must be livid."
wink

I like that!
They do say the good die young.
Her and Scargill will live forever.
I guessed she must still be alive, cos we'd have had a street party by now if she'd kicked it? I don't often wish people dead, but I'm fancying a bit of a dance and her grave's as good a place as any. ;)

N x x x ;)
Charming and I was accused of having no sense of humour.
Is there a difference between finding it funny cos a woman had her Burka forcibly removed, and someone wishing an old lady dead?
I think I know which one most would find offensive.
I am suprised in you Neil to be honest.
Didn`t realise she was still with us dunno

Stunned silence is my only reply
On the OP, good call Kenty, if only we there were more leaders of her caliber in today's world

With respect Kent, she isn't just "an old lady" though is she? Surely once a person has been such a controversial and divisive public figure then they are a legitimate target for satire? As such, laughing at someone having an article of clothing ripped off is, in my opinion, more offensive.
dunno

Er yes she is Nola.
85 years of age is not an old lady in your book???
Forget about what she may or may not have done all those years ago FGS.
Some people though carry the hate with them for all these years.....how sick is that?
Some people need to move on and get a life.

With respect ...dancing on someones grave.... isn`t satire either !!!
No it isn't...........but when looking at the whole sentance it is. Quite funny I thought.......while making someone think why and what are the motives of the sentance.
A perfect example of satire.

Maybe the people who find it funny are showing their true characters?
A bit like I was accused of for a similar " sense of humour " in another thread and yet was rubbished for it.
Still one for the boys eh?
Get onto Galloways radio show and support him....odious hateful and spiteful little toad that he is.

Kent, unlike the example you give, I can assure that no old ladies were actually harmed in the making of my previous post. Maybe that's the difference? I mean, it's not actually possible to wish someone dead? It doesn't work! If it did she'd no doubt have shuffled off this mortal coil some time round the mid 1980s. lol

Is that really your basis for a discussion??
That is ok then Neil.....I am sure it makes all the difference matey.
You been reading too many books Neil.
Galloway .com/odioustoad is a website I am sure many will visit when she does die.

Yes it certainly shows their character, it shows I understand satire. Something that seems to go over your head. Lucky we still have re-runs of Benny Hill for you.

Do you?
Care to enlighten me as to what channel the re runs are on please?
Or is that another poor attempt at satire??

Easy to say from an ivory tower in the affluent south east.
Thatcher and her policies were responsible for tearing the heart out of entire communities. Mining, ship building, steel manufacturing and countless others all died due to her.
As someone who grew up in the Black Country and left school in 1980, I saw first hand the damage she did to the UK's manufacturing industries. Foundries and factories closed, generations of working men were thrown on the scrapheap.
I don't wish death on anyone, but I won't take part in any minutes silence when she finally does go.

Are they the same industries that were losing millions of pounds every working day, and were only being kept open by the unions by any chance?
We have has 13 years of Labour rule, yet did not see them trying to bring back any of those industries that were oh so profit making, in the 80's.loon
I suppose some people would be happy to throw taxpayers money at industries that are going down the toilet, just to save the jobs.
Socialism is great whilst the money is there....

I left school in 1981, here in sunny Dorsetshire we never saw such hardships.
I am also of the view that the lady and her government were not at the heart of the problems described above.

How on Earth can you equate 13 years of Labour government with socialism? New Labour are just as conservative (small "c") as the Tories (maybe more so, Thatcher was an archetypal 'classic liberal'). Blair has admitted his political hero was Thatcher, something totally anathema to any quote-unquote socialist.
This bit:
"I suppose some people would be happy to throw taxpayers money at industries that are going down the toilet, just to save the jobs."
The banking industry, anyone?

Of course you didn't. You've admitted you were in Dorset. How many foundries, mines, shipyards were in Dorset? It's the 'stockbroker belt'. The only hardship was maybe not having petrol money for your Porche.

Just loved the above..........How can any Tory answer that ??
I never suffered under Thatcher, but I personally know plenty who did and the fact that young people in the NE are shovelling chips in Macdonalds instead of building ships in Swanns says it all to me.
Thatcher was never a great PM, I'd have said Harold Wilson was much better.
John
For some she was the greatest PM this country ever had. For others, she was the worst PM this country has ever had. For me, she is the finest example of a Screeching Harridan that this country has ever had. lol

At least he kept us out of Vietham..........Maggie, Tony and probably even Gordon, not forgeting David, would most likely have been very happy to "help out our great friends the USA".
