I have been looking online for some solid information regarding harassment but all I can find is documents which explain it in legal jargon confused??: which means nothing to me lol.
Does anyone know the basic rules/laws about harassment especially from the side of being harassed not doing the harassing?
All I basically need to know is when a situation can be classed as harassment.
Thanks in advance xxx
This is a very grey area in law - doing something about it entirely depends on the type of harrassment. If it's at work, immediately report it to your line manager, outside work report it to the police. In both cases, if it escalates you already have it documented. I have a small amount of legal knowledge - pm me with details, I might be able to help or at least translate the legal jargon in to English!
Basicallythe person being harrassed decides that they are being harrassed.
In reality there are clear definitions and those are dependent on the context.
There are many terms used for harassment such as...
Legal harassment
Sexual harassment
Psychological harassment
Hate speech
Racial harassment
Religious harassment
Stalking
& Police Harassment
As far as I can say anything that is tormenting, humiliating, abusive or any behavior that lowers a person’s self-esteem in or out of the work place or even within a family unit.
I have suffered this insidious behavior a few years back when working in ITC for one of the major banks in the city, not only that it was in front of the head of the ITC dept!
I thought fuck him & dealt with the matter myself face to face with the tosser!
Yes it could have gone either way but it was sorted & we even became good buddies after!
Every situation will be different but the underlying theme is the psychological damage harassment 'bullying' can & will cause.

ANYbehavior or manufactured situation directed at at one or more persons that seeks to lower self-esteem!
compulsory dismissal occurs when you decide to resign from a job because of any form of harrashment but you must keep records of the informations you've passed to your boss or superior office for you to have a case in a tribunal...
I have a little knowledge of this as harassment is one of the issues I deal with in my line of work.
Like others have said, harassment is a personal feeling, when you feel you have been singled out for "special treatment" or feel that an individual or group is making the course of your daily life (whether that be in work or your day to day routine) difficult.
Again as others have mentioned, harassment takes many forms and each form has it's own sub-text in law for the classification of it. Sexual harassment is obviously different from racial harassment etc,etc but the underlying effect remains the same, a feeling of your emotional health being deteriorated by another person/s actions!
I work with people who have suffered all kinds of harassment from physical abuse to psychological tactics to make them feel inadequate, and might hopefully be able to advise you on your situation and/or course of action.
Feel free to PM me and we will try to come to some sort of resolution to better your situation.
If not, good luck with it and don't suffer in silence!!
If you take a look at this link

it should give you a little insight into the protection from harassment act. These days you can get protected from anything deemed to be harassment, texting as well as phones calls.
If it's sexual, I think there has only just been a new Act that's come out but don't know much about it. I'm 4 years out of date from working in law, quite miss it actually sad

Hi all, thanks for all your replies kiss.
The situation is a long drawn out saga between my sister and her neighour, which has escalated into a bad situation where the police have become involved and unfortunatly myself and mr lyns have become caught up in the whole sorry mess confused??:.
My sister has now made an official complaint of harassment to the local housing authority and hopefully they will be able to do something to help recitify the situtation, although it is made slightly more complicated as the lady owns her flat and my sister rents hers from the council.
Mar  I will direct her to the link you posted.
Thanks again xxx
As I recall from our works documentation on this - bad behaviour of whatever kind becomes harassment when it is repeated. The behavious doesn't have to be identical in each event - but it would have the same target and overall effect.
If push comes to shove, rearrange the hands on their dial! & deny everything
