Has the site changed..?

Prompted by a recent debate I've had with another member over in the LMU forum, I thought I'd ask the question.
Has the site changed since you've been a member.. for better or for worse.. or just different?
I originally joined in 2005 under another account and then came back on this one, so I guess I've been on here around 4 years and yes, it's changed.
For me, for the better. I used to use it for chat and the social element and that actually got in the way of any sexual stuff most of the time.. which is one of the reasons I gave it a break for a while to be honest. I now seem to have struck a happy medium between play and chat.. I've even started to play with girls! it works for me and it works well.
How about you guys?
Please don't post unfounded comments like 'it's crap now and used to be great' unless you're prepared to substantiate them - this isn't meant to be a 'slam SH' thread.. more about how you use it differently now to how you used to..? Whether or not it was what you thought it might be after you'd joined? Did you find sex? Love? Rock & Roll? Or did you find something that you really didn't expect to - good or bad?
Your go :P
For me I think it's got worse.
The whole swinging scene is far less 'underground' than it used to be... which in a sense is a good thing, but it's almost like a fashion now "to have a dabble at swinging for a laugh".
As a result, it attracts of a lot of folks just along for the ride, or for a quick shag (not too dissimilar from nightclub on friday night).
It's nice to have so many new folks, but some of the attitudes and assumptions (swinger = easy lay) are not helpful.
Also, there's just a part of me that's not a fan of commercial swinging sites. These places DO cost money to run, and it's not cheap with thousands of members. That said, it just contributes to a site feeling less 'of the people' and more 'business'.
All of that said... this site still manages a pretty good atmosphere, and is infinitely better than a number of other high profile websites who have taken commercialism to a stupid level.
I guess I just miss the smaller, more homely atmosphere... and my pipe and slippers.

I think for a long time, post take over, it was definitley worse. There were too many changes and too much upset and arguing, no cohesion in the site and it lost any sort of community feel to it. I think the new (well, not so new now owners) made some monumental fuck ups and we all had some full on diva-ish rants about it. Luckily thats calmed down, apart from the odd ripple wink .
I still can't say it's better and i don't think i ever will be able to. I miss chatting to Postie, Happycats, Dino & H'red, Debbiewebs, Polo, Kiss, Sheddy and lots of others- i even remember some whingy drama queen called Bloke who used to be entertaining at times, between the blatant flirting.
so although there's some really great regulars in here to replace those no longer here, and i'm enjoying it a lot more now than i have for a long time, it just feels like something is missing.
I been here since April 2004......and I think the site is far better. It is far easier to find exactly what you want. the chat which is what I like is so much better with regional and special interest rooms. Before it was one big chat room and I could never follow it. Now use local regional room...and means you can make friends and meet socially with people. Thats the other thing I like and thats the soicial side that is now materialised as part of the site. before we had munches ( yes I know they still here) where tended to get people from all over coming. However in my small experiance of them ( I went to two) I found people stayed in their own little regional cliquies. I found them very difficult to mix with people. Now we have socials...slightly looser rules and tend to be regional. For me basically a way to put names to faces from chat room. A way to show your personality and has to be said an awful lot of...shall we say networking for future use....goes on. I love them. So I say massive thumbs up to the site....and the way things have changed

it is interesting what you say about munches.... because as a Munch vet, I think the exact opposite has happened....
Regionalisation may have done wonders for chat, but I think it has killed off the munches that made the site great
a lot of munches now feel like one big regional clique... and anyone else from outside that area are made to feel like strangers
people use to travel and it was a great experience to go to them because people from all over the country use to go to them and you did get to meet people that you wouldn't normally do.....
now..... people rarely travel outside there local area... for example... very few people from the mids room now dont go to a yorkshire or a north west social, very few people from scotland would now go to a north east social....
I was glad to see that for the last Leeds munch that a lot of people from the north west made the effort to go over and it makes the whole experience a lot better.... hopefully loads of yorkies make the effort to go across to Wigan in december
the people who still travel all over are rare.. and the loss of that is sad....
I think it has changed for the better in some ways and not so in others. Overall I think it has improved and long may it continue to.

I think the site as definately changed, and so have the people who use it, but I dont think it has changed for the worse. I have always loved the site, but now I find there are more areas to check out (perv) and also a lot of new people around which is always a good thing. We (me) now make more use of the chatrooms than we ever did before and have even been brave enough to stick my face on cam a few times lol We have probably now found a nice balance between forum and chatroom use, and have friends in both areas.
However, the forums will always be my 'home' and even though I still get a bit lost with all the new forums but I do like them (just cant remember the order they come in and often end up in Introduce yourself rather than the cafe).
So yes, the site has changed, it has evolved and become bigger and better. Overall change is good and I think if you do a bit of digging around, you will find that for the majority of the members, the real 'ethos' of the site is still there (which is not something I have found on other places we have used).
I think it has changed and, like others have said, some changes have been for the better and others possibly for the worse.
Compared to some people I'm a relative newbie having only been here three years. In that time obviously the site has massively expanded and people have come and gone.
It's still the only site of this nature that I feel 'at home' on though. Others I have joined really don't seem (to me) to have any feeling of community - be that forum or chat or (for some) both.
But yeah, maybe it was a wee bit more fun when swinging seemed more underground (although I'll admit my time on SH probably started around the time that was changing.)
The site has enabled me to broaden my sexual horizons, have some bloody horny experiences and also make friends.
Seriously it ain't bad for £50 a year! wink
Is it the site has changed or that people and there expectations have changed.
From a web site point of view there have been some changes that I personaly dont like such as multi cam chat and the tagging of photos
From how the site is managed and policed I dont there are many people who can have issues and I can say this as I have served a ban for being naughty... redface

kiss what he said.
regarding the munches, the ones i attended were fantasitc.
Socials are good. but this might sound daft but the munches were like 4-5 a year, if that, and so everyone would make the effort to travel and attend.
now the socials are more frequent and more local ( well not in cornwall) people dont travel longer to cost and the excitement has kinda gone a bit.
ok that all makes sense in my head.
i feel the site changing to a sex site ruined things, the aresholes who infiltrated the site and chat rooms may have now fooked off to sell themselves else where, but they reacked havoc and got mambers banned and its not yet bounced back. well not locally anyway.

I remember some (not all by a long shot) of those posters. And it's surely unfair to blame the site takeover for some of them going?

A lot of them left within a short time of the takeover, some do still visit but are far from regulars. Others were banned for one reason or another which i won't even attept to go into, so no longer post. I think it's entirley fair to say the takeover was a significant factor in the change of the site and posters.
I am not so keen on the site anymore, which is why I don't post so much.
I don't like the indiscretion which goes on, on the forums.
I don't like the verification which is disguised as "quickie" messages.
I think the tagging of photos by other members is absurd.
I'm not keen on the splitting of the forums, particularly the introduction thread.
I do think the new search facility is a vast improvement. And the fact that whispers can be disabled in chat.
But, from my perspective, I don't enjoy the site as much as I used to.
Sorry to say I do miss the old be honest I can't find my 'place' here as easily as I used to, maybe its just changes and just me to a degree but it does seems harder to meet people from the site than it was in 2004/5.

Your go :P

I think I was guilty of responding to the subsequent posts rather than Bloke's original post. So here goes:
Do I use the site differently? Yes, I possibly use it socially more than I used to - when I first joined it was purely a means of meeting people and then I discovered the forum rolleyes Then I went to Munches and got to know folk and made friends  so the site became partly about meeting people and partly about keeping in touch with friends and enjoying the forum banter.
I didn't expect that - I expected to just use the site to arrange meets (which I still do :rascalsmile but the friendship stuff and forum banter is a bonus.
The site has also enabled me to explore various things that I perhaps wasn't aware of - or at least wans't aware I had an interest in. I had a certain type of meet I was after at first, and boy has that changed.
So yes, the way I use the site has changed.
I like the site as much as I always did for the most part I still enjoy the forums though I have less to say nowadays, though thats because i've said too much in the past,
I do see things a little in the same fashion as flower and also cherry though I agree with Dean too dunno guess i just take the site from day to day.
My biggest gripe though(oh i cant help it ffs) is the new ability tpo be in more than one room at a time. It is freaking awful.
The biggest thing that is in the sites favour is the fact that no other site comes close to it for its range of services to its users.
Hmm being in more than one room at a time is more of a cheat than a feature though.
But anyway I think the site's got better it was a bit more cliquey before I thought, though I'm still failing well smile
It's the best site of this sort that I know
I`ve only been on for 18 months and it has changed even for me. I spend most of my time like Dean in the Mids room but i do like to throw in my twopennoth every now and again in here. It took a while to get used to the new format, but i think we`ve got there in the end, with the occassional tweek.
yes and no............. rolleyes
I've been here since 2003. I have seen loads of changes, some for the better, some for the worse. But the "better" bits and "worse" bits are probably too personalised and picky for anyone else to understand so I won't bother elaborating!
I suppose knowing that so many old members still come here, even if it is only from time to time, has to say something good, considering the amount SH actually has changed and expanded over the years
insularity breeds contempt to quote a swinger we know.. the regionalisation of the site into small groups is a shame but practicalities of swinging mean it works better as far as getting to know others and playing..long term we have seen what we believe to be the downside of it..
im not overly bothered about swinging heaven per se, its just a website, the people here im more bothered about, they come , they go, we keep in touch with some here and some there ..funnily enough many that swing that dont ..omg ,use web sites lol.
i miss what fabio referred to in some ways..that almost global get together that was a munch.. personally tho i think the rules killed the munches more than anything else..rules made by the ones that yelled the loudest,, going to socials where folk occasionally are naughty has never been an issue to us or those that go,, we are swingers ..we are cool with nudity and sex..id love to see a uk munch with social rules .. be a damn site more fun than some of the munches we have been to and the ridiculous upsets that follow because some girl got her tits out or a lucky guy got touched up.. blah blah blah .. bored now.. next thread please
i agree with Meaty, i miss the posts by postie, happy cat etc etc and the banter that went on between them, i used to rush home from work to see what had happened on a thread. Threads were quick moving and responded to almost instantly, now you have to wait days to see a change. I just dont get that buzz from the forums anymore.
i use the site differently too, i was always on forums, waiting with baited breath for the next post, now i spend more time in chat but even that is getting boring, that may be just me though and not the site.
i miss the massive munchs that the forums buzzed with for weks with the build up and anticipation.
but the world and the site m
oves on, people move on, come and go and come back again.
Could i see a day where SH doesnt feature in my life, probably not, but if there was i know there are friends i will keep in touch with anyway and people i will still see.
SH has changed somethings good somethings bad but compared to the other sites i have used, i still dont think any can touch SH for the standard of the site and the chat rooms etc.
I will still travel to munchs finances permitting i will still arrange socials etc, i will still go in the chat room, get me baps out n shag people i want to. The site is what you make it i guess and what you use it for personally. That can change form day to day.
so to sum up i like SH!

Now that is really the short version of what I would say too
thought about this and was goin to say I miss the old site but on reflection it's the banter and cheeky posts I miss from the old site. A lot of those posters seem to have gone, but then I have been laid low for a while too. Been in the chat room more now but heading back to the forum as you can have a more sustained conversation with good feedback x
I essentially started off as a chatroom junkie but having got past (maybe broken) many of the cliques I originally encountered think I have matured into forumite SH.
I'm pleased about the more recent fractionation of the forums; many complained before about the heaviness of some of the political threads because they were nothing to do with having sex with strangers  but I honestly believe SH is the better for it. The SH/swinging community is a wide church and being able to vent one's spleen on here on wider issues (with relatively little risk, AUP considered of course) is really great.
I have to admit to logging on to SH at least every day - and sometimes more than once a day
I see no reason to change the current formula; I came on board just before the change and the move away from the "old guard" and I honestly believe that the new collective of Mods (and Ops in the chatroom) are a great benefit to SH and that, amongst other things, is what keeps me here.
As the old soldiers in the trenches used to say "if you can find a better hole, go to it!"
I've found a few nice holes here on SH, I can say innocent
