Have you met an ''''offenderati''''?

Offenderati :- people who seek to be offended by just about anything, very often on behalf of other, unspecified, people.
This relatively new social group has been identified for the first time on tonight's One Show.
Lacking the courage to state "I find that offensive" they lay the responsibility on others and claim "this group (insert disabled, gay, religious, short as required) will be offended by that (whatever it is) and I insist you cease".
Others within the group find offense at unlikely things - jokes about walking into doors while wearing sunglasses indoors are labelled as "glassesist".
Who are these people? Have you met one? Do they actually get out at all? Have they met these 'vulnerable' groups and actually checked if they might be offended by the same things?
You have no idea
I love the term though sounds so cool
Offenderati hmmm bit like glitterati or the trashy newspaper photographers the pepperoni.
Yup I like it. How do i sign up and what do I do - explanations in the form of yes/no flow diagrams would be appreciated biggrin

Not at all new Foxylady ---- Mary Whitehouse had it all sewn up in 1964 when she launched the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association (NVLA), which was renamed Mediawatch-UK in 2001.
Basically, if the vicar couldn't have read it from the pulpit on a sunday, she would complain about it !!!

These people are social outcasts.
I have only met one, but spoken on the web to a few.
As social outcasts, no they do not get out at all....they stagnate on their computer chairs. lol
Ive worked with a few, normally victims of political correctibility gawn mad in that they are responsible for overseeing some ridiculously overbearing diversity policy.
That said I personally find it difficult to tolerate intolerance.
There are thousands of them, they devote all their time "defending" groups of people who neither need or want to be defended. They are almost always loonie lefties, scruffy smelly drop outs living in squats, or hippy students who smoke too much skunk. I would personally love to give them a special little place they could call their own. A little footpath leading to the edge of the cliff on Beachy Head.
They're just a bunch of dogooders and no marks with no brains and too much time on their hands. :0(
The only group you can still tear to pieces are white hetty males...According to Billy Connolly anyway... biggrin

I thought hey had already got their little haven, within striking distance of beachy head, I thought it was called Brighton.

lol!
Actually, I apologise to Staggerlee if my laughing offended him or indeed anybody else. I did find this highly amusing and shame on me for doing so.
Hope this didn't offend.
As for the OP, I think it's a result of extremes again. I am all for tolerance in terms of understanding, language, acceptance and whatnot, but I think some, perhaps well-meaning but invariably stupid, people just go to the other end of the extreme and common sense is lost amongst the sea of political correctness. These people have no idea of the bandwagon they are jumping on and try to take it to the extreme of "pc coolness". So holding a door open for a lady (or indeed a man) is sexist, rather than good manners, for example.
Some people may take offence at me labelling these people stupid but that is ok, because that kind of, self-evidently, proves my point.

Anyone remember a certain trade mark on a Jar of Marmalade ?
I think that was a perfect example....

what the trademark thay was used as a term of abuse shouted after 4 yr old kids and shortened to one of the more offensive words in the english language
Come on tell me that ppl are oversensative,it never did any harm and the world was better in those days,Idare ya
I knowmany people of Ethnic origin and not one of them was offended by the trademark in question .......
The term you speak of did not originate as a result of the trademark either.....

But many ppl find it offensive, the fact is that if you are white you cannot complain if a symbol that never offended you is removed ,it is not being removed for you, unless you think your feeling matter morethan those of others
Iknow the gollywog is far older than the jam, however to see a racist term as an acceptable trademark just showed how little the black voice was listened to.

Are you an "offenderati" ?
It would appear so....
I'm offended by this thread! mad
:giggle: bolt
I'm not, but other people might find it offensive and I think you should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.
I have one anecdote that may fit this. A community centre I was working in, in an area with a large Asian population and a clientelle consisting of about 90% young Asian women and thier children had not put up thier christmas tree or decorations by the middle of December because the new manager wanted to wait till Eid was over before starting the Christmas celebrations, so as to not offend anyone by making it seem like we valued christmas more than Eid, Diwali, Hannukah, Talk Like A Pirate Day or anything else. (previously we'd always just celebrated everything all together as an excuse to have lots of parties).
There were several comments from the women (Sikh, Hindu and Muslim alike) of, 'Why isn't the christmas tree up yet? we put ours up ages ago at home.'
I have not met a single muslim yet who has objected to christmas being celebrated, or to thier children being involed in a nativity play. This is just my experience, and I can't speak for people of any other religion... well, any religion at all, actually... but there it is.
When is Pirate day?

Eh? I am confused by that comment.....care to explain in a bit more detail?

labels are for tins not people,

And jam jars! Lol
I won't use the term 'wog' because of the unpleasant association. But the golly is a symbol of childhood and marmalde to me - nothing more nothing less.
I have one of the 'offending' gollies on a mug I use at work. If anyone tells me they find it offensive I will, of course, put it away - until they have gone. I have no wish to offend anyone - but symbols are different for each person.
After all the swastika was (and still is?) a sacred Hindu symbol. It has changed from good to bad - can't a little happy figure change from bad to good?
On another tack, my ex held a door open for a woman behind us, who responded very snappily with "there's no need to be sexist" so he let go of it. Not wishing to offend her of course. The fact it very nearly smacked her in the face is sheer accident.

19th of September. I could say I'd had to google it- but I didn't. And yes, I do dress up. It's the only time the gear gets an outing these days. rolleyes
