They can be quite expensive but could recommend an intermediate solution, the Combe Grove Manor hotel in Bath which has a nice spa and beautifully appointed rooms. Don't eat there though unless you really want to lose weight - their cooking was truly disappointing and extremely overpriced. A kid would have produced a better meal than their fancy chefs.
What I loved about this place was the uninterrupted views over the rolling hills, the leafy gardens and the beauty of the manor itself. And it is so close to spots of beauty like Bradford on Avon with its quaint tea shop that looks as if it was taken straight out of a fairy tale! What a place to live in!!
