Yep , me again needing help,(sorry)
i know that i am the sort of bloke who blatently abuses the right to be stupid ,
i have no idea what im doing with a computer or how to use this site properly.
So, could someone please explain to me(like you were talking to a six year old) how to quote a post in a pm please.
many thanks and i love you all ,,,dearly,,,,Dino (AKA thick mancunian bas***d) wink
Whatever the message is
Just type that, replacing Dino for the persons name, without the *'s.
Hi Dino
Should a six year old be up this late?! confused
Anyhow, i think there's a "quote" tab to click on - on the subject line, then just post your reply after the quoted text in the pm..
now brush your teeth and off to bed smile
Dino, if you mean quote a post from the cafe in the forum.....
Hit the quote button on the post you'd like to quote and copy it, then just paste into the pm and voila!
Dino..... i have absolutely no idea..... completely computer illiterate here.... lol
No doubt... someone will help you.....
Best of luck....

No copying or pasting needed if you just hit the quote tabe on the actual post.
If you hit the quote tab on the actual post it comes up as a reply to that topic and not an individual pm.

Huh?
Sorry, I've probably misunderstood the question. I gave instructions to copy a post from the forum to use in a pm and not as a quote with your post in the original thread. Was that wrong?
Libra, what your saying is not wrong at all. You answered his question spot on, i think there was just a missunderstanding with the quote button for a topic instead of pm there.
Ta Mike, pleased I got that right. I know I can be dizzy sometimes lol
Well here my guide to advanced quoting smile Hope it makes some sense or helps someone...
It is all down to BBCode, a scary name but really easy. Anything between square brackets is a command rather than somthing that will show up. All commands have a start and a stop as shown below:
- This is the start of a quote
- This marks the end, note the /
Now just putting between quotes shows the white box but no names, to have names you need to add an = sign and the name to the first command like this:
Quote by equi-princess
what they said

So you can delete anything you like as long as each quote has a start and an end. You don't need to quote everything someone said, or an entire thread. For example:

Here we have a quote from Frecklebird that contains one from Libra... Now if I want to remove LIbras quote I just need to ensure I leave a Start from Frecklebird, and an end from frecklebird and everything will be fine. Think of it like brackets, for each one you open you must close it, and each one you close is the last one. Ok thats sounds confusing but lets try it:
( = Opening a quote
) = Closing a quote
( ) - Works fine
( ( ) ) - Works fine
( ( ( ) ) ) - Works fine
( ) ( ) ( ) - Works fine and gives 3 seperate quotes
(()()())) - Ugh, wont work...
Last bit of advanced quoting is started above, you can nest quotes one in the other as long as they all start and end properly.
Good Luck :)

I hope that is all clear now Dino. Am I right in thinking that you want to take a post from the forum, and post it as a quote in a PM?

Now the really confusing thing is as you didn't select 'Disable BBCode' when you quoted me all the commands are now being used, hence the fact you can't see any of my nice examples but they all show as quote boxes.... Has that confused you even more ;)
The idea of using plain text to include more info, like colour is not new... it is what HTML (the stuff they write web pages with) is based on smile
