Grrrrrrrr ........... I just want to know how on earth a help desk has the audacity to have the word HELP in their department description. Sorry to anyone here who works a help desk but I am more than a little frustrated. Although, let me slow down because in all fairness I havent even gotten through yet to see if they will be helpful.
I am sitting here waiting for someone at the BT help desk to answer the dang phone. I keep hearing this wonderful message ....
"Thankyou for your continued patience. Your call IS moving up the queue, please continue to hold"
I have it on speaker phone and have been listening to it for an hour and forty-five minutes now ... not kidding, I am timing it !!! Its gotten to the point that I dont want to hang up because surely to God I must be close to the front of the queue!!! I cant get my wireless to work. I have tried to install it so many dang times and nothing !! I am not very techie though so it is probably something really simple. redface
So until they answer ... sitting here I wait ..... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I work in broadband, just for a totally different company,.. lets see if we can get it sorted without having to fart about speaking to BT
Has it worked before even just the once??
Are we talking laptop or desktop?

Laptop.
The wireless thingie ( plugs into USB port ) recognises the wireless router and the wireless router recognises the wireless thingy but the two dont want to play together !!
Before I moved into my house I was staying at my moms and I was able to go wireless there using same wireless thingy ( dear lord what is it called? )
Any help appreciated.

Ok, so the wireless adaptor is pairing with the router?
Have you set up a new wireless conection using the network wizard?

Hi Abilene, hope you are well
Glad you are now sorted, perhaps you might want to use the terminology we use for our works 'helpdesk' ..... It is referred to as the 'unhelpful desk' !!!!!!!!!
At least you get the word 'help' in your description lol

Just be thankful you're not with ntHell. The package I get is great, the price not bad but the customer service is a nightmare ! They used to have an 0800 number for you to hang on for 20 mins but not the cheeky beggars have changed it to a charging number and STILL keep you waiting mad
Help desk? My arse rolleyes

Help Desk
When setting up anything with a difficult propose best to get rid of the difficult bit in the title. So the staff are under-paid and under-trained, less than able to help, so we must have help in the title. It will make customers think we mean to help, instead of making money. There is not a desk anywhere near help desk, just a bench, computer and telephone. Staff will feel better if they work at a white collar desk, not a blue collar bench.
Help Desk
The rest we can muddle through later, now the title is right.

Help Desk
Anyone for an oxymoron lol

oi! did you just call me a moron? well? did yer? duel :P though to be fair, i've never found a desk all that helpful meself. useful for putting stuff like in-trays and monitors on, but then a floor's just as good at that kinda thing, and significantly cheaper? ;)
in defence of help desks, i used to work for epson. noone knew more about the whys and wherefores of changing an ink cartridge than me. need to know how to plug a printer in? i was yer man. funny noises and flashing lights? all easily fixed with the very technical "grab the print head and slide it about a bit? see what happens?" that's how highly skilled we were! for the really difficult stuff, we had to know how to fill in this great big bloody form and ask you loads of stupid questions so we could "escalate" to "second line" (((( that's techie speak for shouting over the bloke with the beard! )))
:smug:
abilene, you would be amazed just how many people would rather spend half an hour on hold, and 50p a minute when they eventually get through, to ask a question that is thoroughly and conveniently answered on page 2 of the manual! rolleyes epson were bleedin' coining it in i can tell you! bored us stupid and pissed those with a proper technical question right off when they had to wait all morning for us to pick up the call. ;)

eeeeek . . . . no, no, no i know it was. i'd have been buggered by it too! wasn't suggesting otherwise! redface
in fact, you can see just how techie i am with the myriad helpdesk type questions i've posted here meself! about techie enough to earn 17 grand a year, but not techie enough to get a mouse working under linux! nuff said! rolleyes lol ;)
loads better than BT or epson, and a damn sight cheaper! ;)

I had to ring Motorola yesterday. I've been getting this pain-in-the-arse message about whitespace when trying to upload photos from my phone to the pc. I've renamed the files as suggested by the website - no cure. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my software as suggested - still no cure. So, methinks, I'll ring the techy help desk and ask the pc bods there.
I got an dunno from them and a promise to get someone to ring me *quote*within the next 48 hours*unquote*
WTF is going to take them 48 hours????
mad rant over, apologies, lack of sleep and PMT to blame besides non-uploadable photos evil

From Help Desk;
if it has an on/off switch, switch it off, count to ten SLOWLY, then switch it on again. If that does not work I'll get the guy in the beard.

I contacted my network first and they told me to get onto Motorola as they don't have the software to sort it. Needless to say, Motorola didn't get back to me yesterday.

I had a word with our tech guys today...
Apparently, what you have to do is rename the photo files, and remove and "&" symbols and you should have no further problems, apparently, this is the root of all evil..
Beer is on you if this works....

oh bugger darkfire, you're knackered. playing football with it or smacking it with an 'ammer should only be done by trained technicians! rolleyes probably voided yer warranty now? generally we play footie with the broken one, and send you one that was actually working perfectly but brought back in for repair cos we couldn't find the manual for it and couldn't be arsed working out the problem? :P
you really got a problem, or you just testing my technical ineptitude? ;) what model number? what lights are on / off / flashing? any noises? does it do anything at all when you try to print?

On answering the phone you will hear the numerous options to get through to the section/person you want.
Well............Just keep hitting the number 1 .When you get through to someone simply ask for whom you initially wanted and 9 times out of ten the put you straight through.
Works about 75% of time ( you can obviously choose your own number but it probably makes no difference

I couldn't post from work, as this site is restricted, but was able to see that you had responded via my phones browser..
Ok, there is a fix for this...
1) Make sure you rename all files so they don't include and & syumbols, also make sure they have no more than 36 characters in total, so possiblty rename them all 1 2 3 4 etc etc..
2) Once you have completed this, you then have to unistall the programme the PC uses to connect with the phone, and then reinstall it.
3) Beers...
I'm hoping this works for you...
