Hi Guys & Gals,
I recently went for a job interview passed the technical test, the compentace test, the role play but failed the maths test
I am really rubbish at this sort of thing and was wondering if anyone could help me get me head around things. The sort of questions were things like 9 x ?=4-5x7 ect ... and then things like 2/3+? -(4x5)= and things like =10divided by ? (4+5) - 3 sort of thing not quiet like this but along these lines i have no idea what these are called let alone how to do them
I would like some one to explain things to me either through here or if not to far away i can come around to yours and you can show me how to do them.
Any sort of help would be greatfully received as i have to re sit it on tuesday i have been given the job on the understanding i can pass this maths test so i am really desperate to sort this out. If anyone knows of any good straight forward sites i can look at please send me the address.
Many thanks people xxxx
Try this site, has all the normal as well as everything else you may need.
Hope it helps.

I'm struggling with that too fumblingfingers. I failed O Level maths quite spectacularly, but once worked as a saw operator, and had to work out what angle and what length to cut a piece of aluminium so that a welder on piece work could make a thingie of a certain length with the right angle. These days I use really quite complicated formulae ((( for me? ))) to calculate compressional and tensional loads on individual components in a cantilever system. Can't link you to an easy explanation, but practice makes perfect.
N x x x ;)
with maths plus, minus, multiply and subtract have an order of priority
so for 9-5x2 there could be two possible answers: 8 or -1
found from (9-5)x2 or 9-(5x2)
so you need to follow the priority to find the correct answer. this also involes rewriting the equation with brackets to make it clear. ( i have forgotten which is which at the moment)
That's right well done that fellow! BODMAS
That seems to be the main purpose of the kind of questions the op is going to be asked to solve.
B Brackets ()
O Of
D Division /
M Multiplication x
A Addition +
S Subtraction -
If you have to solve equations its usually a case of isolating x by performing identical actions on both sides until you end up with a value for x
There's some good examples here with solutions;
