holla......heres the problem> brand new battery in my renault 5 gtt (dont take the piss outta her, shes my second g/f) also it is the correct battery. right when i drive her there are no problems what so ever...no problems with the alternator chargin the battery...ok... but when i put her to bed i wake up to find the battery flat as flat can be, not even the central locking will work, ive tested the battery with my multi meter (electrician) confused and its going down by a milli volt per second (roughly), i know i need a load tester but it gives you the idea of whats happening, im not the best with car lectrics but can ussually find my way around, any ideas?!
dead cells in the battery, it's not holding charge...or if you have an alarm on it, that could drain the battery if it has a fault.
i would get the batt drop tested, and get the alternator checked out at the same time....most fast fit centers will have the equipment to test.
oh...to keep this in the "swinging" topic....you really need this car for dogging and meets!!!!...dont you wink
meter the battery again then individually pull each fuse (then put it back so you don't lose track) if your drain ceases then check the circuit for this fuse. as it's an old car is shouldn't be too complex (look out for inline fuses) i've got the same thing on my jag (nightmare) i've know where the problem is just not whats caused it. and i've also managed to make my electric windows operate in reverse banghead
best of luck or call a sparky

i should have thourght of that, doh and i am a sparky lol, but a domestic/comm and indus one so not really confident about car lectrics, cheers there`l be a DRINK...FECK ....NUNS in it for ya
It might be something as simple as a wafty boot light switch which causes the lights in the boot to stay on. Worth lugging the back seat down and having a peep to check.

shame on you for not thinking of that smackbottom i used to do the same job until eightish years ago. now go and sit in the corner and don't come out until you have read you 'regs manual' from cover to cover
have heard it sometimes happened on cars that have faulty wiring (it's a renault, so bound to somewhere :P )..................but could be the wiring is coming in contact with something and its earthing the whole, car,..............ergo, you park, battery discharges to the ground ............

thats what i thourght but for some reason i keep thinkin that that would blow a fuse, posative to neg should shouldnt it peeps, ive got it in my head that its got to be something, like a coil shortin, like the starter motor or summit or like has been said, a light stayin on?! and yeah your right renaults sad
plus its an H reg plus its an R5 TURBO, more troublr than a little
good point confused but what if its earthing before it gets to the fuse's :?

good point, humm mabey i should strip it, it needs resprayin anyway.
very little should be able to earth before the fuse. you may have an earth fault (poor grounding or tracking to +ve). look for corrosion or high resistance (above 1R) back to the battery, examine the fuse box for problems. You can sometimes diagnose ground faults by staring the car, swithching on the indicators and applying the brakes. if you get something resembling a disco you will find a ground fault somewhere (usually near the lights which can occasionaly cause knock on faults in linked circuits)

, ive kept my eye out for, indictors flashin wildly an that, i`l have to do some tests at the weekend, oh by the way, if you were a sparky....what you doin now out of interest

*looks in corner and finds last person to try that dead and only on page 2457*
I'd say it's not a direct short to earth. If it was I'd have expected to see the voltage much lower TBH (curent goes up, voltage goes down).
Worth doing the fusebox thing. Also check for water collecting in things like fuseboxes, cables, ECU (did the R5GTT have an ECU? dunno ). Probably worth having a look behind the stereo as well. On a car this age it's probably going to look like a bad acident back there. :scared:
