Hello all,
thought i'd ask you a question in regards to information on web sites that i can trace a relative who passed away some years ago.
I have looked at most of the sites recommended by google but they offer a free exchange of information then try to get you to pay for the privilage.
All help gratefully recieved.
If it helps, a lot of those sites that make you pay like are actually free to use if you access them from the computers at your local library.
I never knew that, Thank you.
From memory, Ancestry is free when you first use it - you can look at stuff and make own notes but not necessarily download. You can view so many docs before they ask you to subscribe.
Or you could do a search for the Family Records Office in your area, or if you felt worth the trip, then go down to the one in Clerkenwell, London or Kew. Both are a wealth of info.
Good luck in your search.

I don't know if you've been there but is one of the best sources of information for finding pointers on where to look for UK genealogical info. A lot of the bigger genealogical sites tend to be more aimed at US info (even thought there is a lot of British information too). Another good root source is . Also may help
Thank you guys, you have given me food for thought here. Just gotta digest it now. lol

Don't know whether you have tried, but a good resource for family history research is Free BMD.
