so youre towing the party line? maybe you should spend some time with soldiers and understand some of their motivations.
are all policemen heroes? are all nightclub bouncers heroes?
no not towing any line it has ALWAYS been my view and i have spent time with serving soldiers i am from a forces family i was only one not to serve actually and like i said ANYONE prepaired to risk their life for another is a hero in my eyes
even if you yes you of all people risked your life for another then i would call you a hero
Soldiers are a lot more worthy of the name "Hero" than the likes of some sports stars who do get called hero's

Someone mentioned fireman,as the granddaughter, niece and daughter of firemen i can assure you they in no way consider themselves heroic, just geordie men looking for a steady wage.
A hero is someone who steps beyond what is expected of them,

and no soldier i know considers themselves a hero either they too see it as an honest days work for an honest days pay but can u honestly tell me that if someone puts someones life before their own that is not an heroic act??????
the soldier that threw himself on an I.E.D so as to save others around him was that not heroic?????
the firemen that carried on trying to save innocents in the second world trade tower even though the first had already fallen was that not heroic?????
they started out as men just doing a job for money but when needed they stepped upto the mark and then some not many could claim the same it takes a special kind of person and i will call them heroes forever.

most soldiers are killed walking along on patrol by a roadside bomb or a sniper. that death was forthe greater cause, but ,im sorry, not heroic.

In your opinion. In others opinion, putting themselves in the firing line where death could be the result is heroic

in my humble opinion... anyone who lays thier life on the line .. be it walking along a road on patrol, falling on an explosive device, patrolling the streets at pub kicking out time, rescuing people from the side of a mountain or from a blazing fire and loses that life is heroic in my eyes...
Yes the campaign to have all members of the forces branded 'hero' is just a smoke screen to stop us questioning the realities of any given situation.
The forces are heroes and heroes do not shoot, bomb or oppress innocent people
The police are heroes and heroes do not arrest, beat or kill innocent people
Heroes are by their very nature heroic and do no wrong.

i see wat your saying but i don't think it stops the majority questioning at all i think its a campaign thats failing i think more than ever people are questioning why our troops are in the situation they are than ever
