sorry its boring, but i have never hired a car before.
i have just booked one on line and pre paid but it doesnt seem that clear about deposits.
its with hertz and ive booked with my credit card, now will they take a deposit when i go and collect the car? or will they just hold my card details till i return the car? and does anyone know how much the deposit would be?
the super insurance with is £12 a day but i looked on and found one that would only be that for the whole period.
is it worth buying this insurance at all?
any one with any answers or experiences with hertz?

I think its statutory to have insurance as part of the basic deal. These organisations always try to sell you something extra, so check it out.
The 'deposit' is based on the Grade of car you're hiring..
The 'deposit' is taken at the time of the hire agreement being signed (when you pick-up the car). At this point the value of the deposit is removed from your available credit balance on your card, when you return the vehicle the 'deposit' is returned to your remaining available credit. The same applies with Hotel deposits.
Basic mandatory insurance is part of the hire and usually covers 3rd party ONLY (depending on country). Without the additional 'top-up' insurance you will be liable to Hertz for the difference in the repair bill if you have an accident. Taking out CDW covers the 'excess' payment. If you are hiring in the USA or Canada it is worth taking out the full insurance package or if you don't feel comfortable with driving in a foreign country.
make sure you inspect every inch of the car when you collect it, even better, take pictures of it from every angle so you have a record of the condition of every panel and surface.
also, make sure they don't try and charge you twice like they did with me wink
