It was announced today that the Drug Truvada which can prevent HIV infection in healthy humans has been cleared for use in the US by a team of medical experts
Clinical trials begin in the UK in the Autumn

some people are asking if it's available ,,will it make you more promiscuous
:swingingchair:
As HIV is just one of a whole raft of potential STIs, I would hope it makes no difference to people's attitudes, but I'm not naive enough to believe it won't. However, if people added it to their existing preventative measures then it would be very useful.
But I'm guessing the people who need it most - in the 3rd world - are not likely to have access to it! rolleyes
In edit: I just saw the part that says the drug is expensive, and has to be taken every day, 100% of the time. That will probably rule it out for use in the UK.

will it make you more promiscuous

I'm not sure I'd find the time to be more promiscuous!!
I would take exactly the same precautions as I do now though. As cubes said, there are a whole load of other nasties out there ... It's not just about HIV
I think the ultimate question has to be
If you could avoid the life threatening diseases would you play unprotected?
Guess you have to weigh up up your situation. The other STD's have complications to even if they dont kill you such as infertility and other discomforts. Some are more fussy than others some wont practice oral without some protection where as non protected oral is common in the swinging world.
If there ever create an injection that can prevent ALL STD's then yes we might get a bit more "promiscuous" but as that will never happen then no, we will keep playing safe.
I echo cubes' comment, those in the third world, who really need it, won't find it available to them.
As far as making people more promiscuous goes, I can't imagine it changing anyone's attitude to, or appetite for, sexy fun and games.
I can only see this becoming commonly used in the porn industry within the next few years. It's not going to eliminate HIV in the third world and it's not going to change attitudes anywhere else.

Surely the answer to that is yes. If there was no risk, then there probably wouldn't be any protection in the first place. fact is there will always be a risk or something, be it infection or pregnancy.
I agree with you all,
Being it’s a US based drug company it will be expensive so won’t be dispensed freely on the NHS,
Some parties are actually requesting this drug is not approved,
It’s still not a cure just merely prevention, and might lead some into a false sense of security.
For now will stick with safer sex
