It could be true in some cases; I spend far more time on SH than I do swinging. Generalizations are often a bad idea.
I really shouldn't mention this, but I guess it's ok, what with the interscape-net-web being so anonymous and all that
years ago, as a skinny child growing into a sallow pimply youth, many a happy hour were passed in company of Noaks and Singleton (I was never all that comfortable with Perves... dunno why) and I aspired to the dizzy hieghts of one day gaining my very own Blue Peter Badge.
No idea how, the object was the goal, not the method of realisation.
I'll not give you the sorry details of my impoverished and desperately lonely childhood, that's not my intention here... I'm over it, save your sympathy for those whom deserve it, politicians... arms dealers and the like.
Needless to say, I dragged myself into adulthood Badge-free, without realising the depths of my own bitter and twisted resentment.
But this is where the story does indeed brighten, and brings me back onto the general theme of the thread, and Hobbies.
A little disturbed I may have been in younger years, and this may have been reflected in my hobby, if it may be called that, in days gone by.
a collector.
though never being able to settle on a theme, style, or type, I collected wildly, filling any spare cupboard, drawer... eventually rooms, and the occassional abandoned allotment shed with all sorts of, and I have to say it, utterly useless tosh.
then finding ways in which to dispose of it all... always a problem. Usually involving fire and accelorants... though that is another chapter of my life I think I may just gloss over if you don't mind?
Rudderless... drifting you might think?. well yes, but in recent times (difficult emotional period) my mind turned again to the dream of the badge. Only to be faced with the ever more unattainable goal.. now adult, surely there was no way I could even dream of having my own?
but im a clever chap me.
If I can't have the badge for my own merit, I shall collect the badge holders themselves!!! Oh Yes!
Again I shall gloss over the details, there may be legal implications... but be it enough to say that my earlier youthfull collecting, distributing, and disposal techniques have paid off well in later life.
Fourteen badge holders are now in my collection, and indeed I am very proud of them.
Since there has been more development work in the areas of south west London, cellar space has become of the premium, and finding safe places to keep my exotic collection was more and more open to discovery...
Suffice to say, my collection can now be viewed mainly fron the air in very neatly fenced off area of still quite wild marsh near Edmonton... the little devils can run free for as much as four or five hours a week... work schedule and public transport permitting.
I'm very proud of them, and feel my little hobby has me grow into a better, well balanced person.
other than that... well... I'm a bit of a saddo on here
all the best
lp
I think you could class swinging as a hobby.
What would be good is if i could combine my hobby(military vehciles) with swinging!
