my grandma hated my mam, cos he was a village lad, and she was a town girl, and she hated the product of their union soooo much that when, as a 9 year old child, i buried my dad, she couldn't even acknowledge us as we lowered the coffin. i kid you not! she flounced out and we never saw her again! :?

my mam's MIL was a complete cow. entirely up to her to not be a cow really, cos why should we be arsed with her if she can't meet us half way? as for my future wifes MIL? well if i choose a wife, then it's up to my mam to respect her son's decision, and meet us half way too? i'd want to see some movement before i even began to worry about the whole MIL thing? gotta share a problem before you can halve it, and in my experience MILs ain't so good at the halfway thing? :?

You are right, we do have children which for now is the only reason we see her. Once they are old enough to form their own opinions on the lady, I doubt we will see them at all.
I actually find that a sad thought for Ians sake but he doesn't seem worried by it dunno
