As a single woman I tend to go away on my own, mainly to chill out, relax, read, see the sights, flake out in the sun and catch some rays etc! If I meet a nice fella great...... wink
For the first time, I was really pestered by guys of all ages. Its wasn't just a few times, it was over a dozen offers of sex a day (I'd have been knackered by the end of the week if I'd have taken them all up lol  ). They followed me around by foot, car or motorbike......every day and every flipping night. I felt so harassed and pestered I was near to tears after five days.
I asked to move tables in restaurants, threatened not to pay for meals unless I was left alone, even one of house boys asked to sleep in my room  Offered sex *free of charge* at on the beach (ok that one made me laugh  )
Normally I'm quite a polite, friendly person wherever I am and like to get to know the local culture, have a natter and giggle with people I meet etc.
This time, I actually went into evil mode as soon as a guy looked at me.....so he didn't get chance to open his mouth! I ended up finding places to go that was either deserted or went out with a group I had met on another forum that had regular meets for newcomers to the country.
Besides that I had a wonderful time, met some lovely people and would certainly go again but with a little more knowledge of what to expect
Has anyone else had this experience on holiday? How did you deal with it?
Or if sex is on the agenda for you, how did/would you approach lone women/guys?
xanaisx
PS. Oh and thank you to the lovely guy from here who saved me from awkward situations on more than one occasion! kiss:kiss:
PPS. thank you also for all the wonderful welcome back pms
Yes.. but then I expect it I married the booga! lol
Seriously tho, I've not actually been away without a man in tow and I can only sympathise with you hun.
I'm sure one of those adonis' must've slipped through the net tho :rascal:
We reccommend a tattoo saying "fuck off im ovulating " on the forhead - failing that especially in the Med - the men will come even if you are holding a bread knife and screaming 'keep away' in a hysterical voice .
Feel your pain hun lolol
Fancy a F*** lol
Hi Anais
I know what you mean, I get pestered all the time rolleyes
I find that getting blindly drunk often assists me. As you may know "beer goggles" can help in the worst of circumstances and the "mystery bus" will always get you home lol
Seriously though, I have only ever holidayed abroad alone once and it might not be a surprise to find I was not hassled (unless you count the Timeshare people in Chad)
In fact I have only been offered sex for money twice and both times it was in Cardiff!!

Pmsl here (sorry) lol
I know the feeling, in Thailand in certain areas it is not unknown to be approached whilst on the beach, by females who are 'working' the beach for money, the best thing I have learnt is 'no thankyou' and if they still don't get the message try something suitable in their own language!! (that includes, Thai, Russian, German, and one or two other eastern languages!!)
or re the sex thing...
Make sure when staying in a private house, that the door is fully closed and correctly locked!!
Mmm Thats turkey for ya.... lol
At a guess..??

Not sure if its me though Sarah... Knowing the town your talking about and NEVER taken in the local delights on offer.. this year it was harder than ever to get NO accross...
Even in our favourite haunts at the end of second road.. Dusit Roundabout where all the pool tables are outside.. just before the market!!! Never been harrassed and never had any grief but this year took the buscuit lol.... 'No No' 'No Thank you' 'Bugger off (with a nice smile mind)' 'Go away please' Nothing did the trick with some... The only thing that worked was moving bars to spend money each time but close enough to let them see so that the following night they sort of got the message... sort of!!

Hahah your right lol Beautiful place...had a fantastic time!
Went to great night club... made a joke to some of the people I persuaded to go with me that it was a swinging club. When I got there my face must have been a picture as it was full of four poster beds and little cubby holes above the dance floor with curtains across for privacy
Free entrance an drinks for women till 4am in the morning... I had a good night! wink
I went by myself two years ago to Eygpt for a week. I had never done this ever before and although I was seeing someone I wanted a break by myself. As soon as I got there I realised I had a triangle over my head bleeping "single woman"!!!!! My hotel was fabulous but at every bar in the hotel, the dining areas and tours there were men there asking me very forward questions all the time. Even the guy who cleaned my room left a big heart on my bed made out of towells having first left swans  .
Now I have a mouth on me and can come across pretty assertive when I want to and my ambition that week was to get an amazing tan and read 10 books. I did both but I did realise that in many ways I was vunerable and I always made sure the door was locked!!!!!
I would still do it again and as I grow older I know I want to travel and will have no choice but to do this alone sometimes and I find the thought of that pretty exciting biggrin :D

In answer as to how to ward off guys, the following steps may be necessary:-
have your hair cut very short and spike it up with gel.
always go out wearing a football shirt, jeans (or knee-length shorts) and trainers.
have a fake tattoo on one forearm with initials of above mentioned football team.
have a fake tattoo with a popeye-style anchor on the other arm.
always drink pints.
pierce your ears at the top, several times.
A bit extreme, but you never know, it might work!!!

Its quite an adventure to go away on your own.... I really enjoyed it. Took my watch off and forgot about the time. Did what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it, ate when I was hungry etc... I definately would do it again. I would do some things differently now that I know us single women (and a newbies to certain countries - we stand out so much!) have homing beacons on our heads...
I got up to find flowers all over my door one morning... thinking it was Easter Sunday and a local custom I didnt think much of it till I noticed that no-one else had them... confused Till, one of the house boys asked me if I had recieved my flowers at breakfast... turns out that I had told one of the house boys he was *so bad* for asking to sleep in my room the previous night he had put them there as an apoligy lol
I did lock my door each night but we also had a great security guard who seemed to take it upoon himself to check that I was ok each evening! Still locked it though lol
I have heard of strange things being done with your bed or towels!! One of the ladies I met told me she had red flower petals all over hers one day when she got back to her room... cute init?
YOu can certainly have some adventures on your own and with friends... the only time I really missed company was not having anyone to tell funny stories of things that had happened to me that day, or no-one to go sight seeing with. Plus, if you have a travelling friend it can be much cheaper etc.
