Ok, so it cheeting but......
my daughetr has come home iwth a piece of math homework and i dont have a clue how to get the answer. Ive tried google etc but either im crap at asking for what i want or google is stumped aswel.
So i thought i would come and ask the members of this site, im sure someone will come up with the answer, and i can then go off and look clever in front of my daughter lol.
the question is make 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 in to 1000.
thanks for any help

What year is she in? Not being silly - makes it easier to determine the sort of answer the teacher is after?
year 7 that would be year one at comp to all us oldies lol

i have an answer.... but it might be just a bit too complicated for year 7.....
square root of 9 = 3
multiply by 6 = 18
add 7 = 25
mutliply by 8 = 200
multiply by 5 = 1000
but working on other solutions....

talk about mind boggling!!!!!!!!!!
cant work it out.......
wouldn`t be along the lines of 5x200 =1000
1009-9=1000
994+6=1000?
none of the various combinations used together work out right...........
no way an 11 year old can figure it.........
thanks you guys,
2's i did think it was a tough math question to give to a 11 year old, as i couldnt even work it out,but then im crap at math, but fabio, yours looks good. she might get away with it lol
xx lou xx
hope so
think i have a coffee to wake up
your right it is cheating make em have a go first, but failing that I guess the easiest for the age group is
200x5-6+7+8-9
second answer.
Dear ,
Little has been feeling very poorly over this weekend and as a precaution I will be taking her / him to the doctors and keeping her / him way from school for the rest of this week.

kept the kids quiet 4 a while earlier trying to work it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the littl`un says"1000x1=1000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the others r still trying!!!!!!!!
9/10 and I'm rubbsh at maths - feeling quite proud of meself now!!
Why do we have to subject our kids to such crap ! What practical application in real life is ever going to be resolved by learning the ability to make random figures add up to a random number?
