This has just dawned on us......
.......our previous experience with hotels etc is:
Make booking, turn up on the day and check in, stay over night/s, pay and check out and leave.
So as we're new to swinging, we have the complication of a) smuggling someone past reception and b)Checking out the same night as we checked in.
I'm sure there's a well known way of going about this so if someone can offer advice it'd be appreciated. We only have to get an extra bod in, not a group and staying overnight just isn't possible for any of us.
Any help from the experts here will greatly put our minds at ease!
Thanks smile

try getting a family room therefor having an extra body is not unusual and also pay when you check in. most hotels have a key slot to drop your keys in so leaving before the morning is not a problem (or if you need an excuse) a family emergency is always an option rolleyes

Smuggling people in- Just get them to walk in. The only time i've ever encountered security on a hotel door was a city centre hotel at 1am. I sort of had to have a minor sex change to get in as i wasn't on the list of guests confused
Checking out the same night- walk past the desk and hand in the key (or drop it in the key deposit box) and walk out. The staff really don't give a shit who you are and what you're doing there as long as it's fairly legal and doesn't cause them a problem

With hotels you have to remember that most of the staff work shifts so the evening staff won't know who has checked in during the day etc. So just tell you friend where the lifts are in the hotel....and they can just walk straight past reception and into the lift as if they are staying there. To be honest most hotel staff don't care who comes in or out of the hotel so long as no one is causing any trouble. If they do get stopped they can just say they are just dropping something off for a friend/colleague etc.
As for leaving just drop the key off at reception and walk off......If you feel you need to explain yourselves just say that you've had an emergency and need to leave.....or something like that.
Most hotel staff have seen it all.......and won't blink an eyelid at you having a friend in you room. As meaty said it's only normally a problem getting into hotels late at night in city centres......in which case just think up a cover story or one of you can meet your guest outside and then walk them in. smile

This sounds a bit like a B movie!
It is a serious point, though, going back to some years ago, people did actually "get caught out" with this, but I think now, as has been said by others, there is no problem, especially with "lodge" type places - just walk in with confidence:!:
Plim :)

speaking from both sides of the 'reception' counter here folkes.
As we both work in Hotels we know what goes on behind closed doors, you'd be foolish to think that the room was just used for sleeping only!
Most Hotels offer an express checkout where by you leave your credit card details with them and they do the rest in the morning.
As above, book a family room, or if staying at most Holiday Inn's (no we don't work for them), book a twin room as they have 2 double beds in them - perfect for 'entertaining'.
Returning to your room late in the evening (or very early morning) with company is never a good move as the Hotels night staff have a fairly strict policy on who is and who isn't allowed in - the old addage of 'if your names not on the list your not coming in' routine definately applies to the majority of Hotels.
ALso - if you are paying for an Hotel and are only wanting it for a few hours, use a travelodge or something similar as the people that stop there tend to be very transient, leaving after a few hours won't raise any suspicions. It is always a shame to book and pay for a good Hotel room though and not stay overnight!

The next question is - do you stick to one hotel where you know you won't get any problems but eventually Kevin in reception starts winking at you when you arrive, or use a different hotel each time and end up driving 50 miles just to get to one you haven't used already?
I favour the first option as I'm an exhibitionist anyway and don't care what other people think. But as I travel for work I get a choice of a few cities to try the hotels of. Best thing is - work pays for the room biggrin:D:D:D:D:D:D How cool is that?

Who's Kevin? lol
First time I checked in & out 'same day' was a piece of cake, key drop & different receptionist but have had a few 'knowing' looks since. But I reckon half of the people giving the knowing looks are probably just jealous anyway so f*ck em..........not literally!

Some hotels have key cards now, and dont want them back!
Great for dropping out of windows so others can let themselves in, via bloke on dor with a clip board checking us all back in!! redface surprisedops:
IMO if you leave a hotel early it is none of the staff's business

Travel lodge book you in as per room and dont even ask how many people are going to be there... if you look at their booking confirmation for most rooms it will say "sleeps 4, maximum of 3 adults" some rooms have maximum of 4 adults but you have to do a bit of searching for those...
Basically if its simply a "room only" booking and not inclusive of breakfast most chains won't be too concerned... maybe a little jealous...

oh yes it is most excellent, when as said above work pays for you to stop in different hotels and as your partner get to stay in the hotel for free..

Yes, There is unlikely to be any trouble at Travelodges, Travel Inns, etc., neither is there at most city centre hotels. The ones to be careful of can be the smaller pub/hotels. There are a still a few Basil Fawltys around, as some of us found out at a certain inn near where a munch was held last year.

It is preferable NOT to get noticed by staff crossing a hotel lobby with loud clicking heels across a hard floor at 2am with one hold up round your ankle redface surprisedops:

Its also not recommended to have mood setting candles in a no smoking room causing the whole hotel to get evacuated. Especially when there are four people in the room, at 1am, with lots of sex toys on show. redface surprisedops:

Having worked for Travelodge during my pre-swinging days, as both a cleaner and receptionist, I would say most of the time the staff don't tend to worry about who'd going in and out. I know they're not exactly the Ritz, but they're alright for 'entertaining!' Not sure if they take more notice at inner city lodges, but at the one I worked at, and most others I know of, there is not usually a count of the number of people in rooms. (Issues surrounding security, fire procedures, etc, I know......). I used to see a number of people come in and check out the same night. But, as the room was paid for on arrival and keys could be left at reception, people often just used to think that they had popped out and would be back! No questions ever asked, at the end of the day they just want your custom. As long as you're not causing any problems to others in the hotel I'd say you'd be fine.

If you feel you have to give a reason, just say that you are having a business meeting with a few colleagues -- when I was at work it wasn't that unusual to get together the night before to chat about a meeting the following day, so its a ploy I've used a number of times -- it also explains why you might use the same travelodge and have different "visitors"
But mostly, if they have taken your money and you don't cause a fuss, they couldn't care less. If you are realy shy, take a supermarket carrier and a pair of marigolds and clean up before you leave lol

I always ask for an extra key card. You often need one to make the lights work (though a piece of card usually does that too) and also sometimes to work the lift or the outside door in the evening.
I like getting to know hotels, know the reception layout and the route to the bar or the restaurant, and then from the bar to the lifts, etc. Check out their cheap nights, often Friday and Sunday. Make the most of it, choose a hotel with a pool or gym'n'tonic.
