How artistic are you?

The reason I ask is that what little artistic abilities I had when I was younger seem to have fizzled out over theyears.
I sang at school and could read music and though it was only the recorder, I played in the school band - we even entered a few competitions so can't have been too dire!
In my teens and twenties I was the Dancing Queen but somehow my ability to dance just slipped away.
I was never much of a painter or good at drawing but was quite into crafts. Now my only artistic leanings are in photography.
I like the thought of creative writing but somehow never got round to it - maybe I should start a clever blog.
What about you?
Do you sing, can you dance? Are you a painter or a sculptor? Are you a poet?
Go on...big up your talents!
I write poetry when the mood takes me, usually personalsed stuff for and about the people I know.
Ive written poetry since i was about 4, and I can still remember the first poem I ever wrote. (must think about writing one about this place maybe?!?)
I make and decorate celebration cakes when the ocassion arises, and dont do a bad job of it if I say so myself.
Cant sing, dance or draw tho...or play a musical instrument...oh no....wait, yes I can.....the triangle!! wink

I sing like a strangled cat :scared: I can make Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding sound like Celine bloody Dion
My dancing's passable but I can belly dance quite well. I'm thinking of taking up ceroc this year too biggrin
Can't play an instrument but that's because I never learned redface
Hopeless at drawing though an artist friend of mine told me if you can sign your name, you can draw. It's a skill that everyone has, it just needs honing.
I write poetry and short stories too. My late best friend was a writer and he gave me so much support and encouragement though I doubt I'll ever follow up his suggestion of getting my poetry published.
My forte is interior design. I took a course in it and love the creative part of DIY. I can look at a furnished room that needs redecorating and see a blank canvas. I'm good at photography too. I've been told I have an 'artist's eye' which is just as well coz I don't have his voice, feet or ear confused
Yep, I write poety, has to be said its normally pretty depressing stuff but there you go.
I also take pictures, I used do advertising work untill I got fed up with it but have continued to take photos for my own pleasure now and I have found I actually quite enjoy it smile

I so admire that ability. I like to think I can compose a good picture but the talent seems to escape me with interior design. Last time we re-did our living room, I was aiming for cool pale green and slightly tropical feel..kind of Raffles, Singapore style...the end result was more like a public lav!
Well as a designer I have all the usual skills, drawing, painting and designing etc. I used to write poetry and still write the odd one now and again, but they tend to be quite personal, very abstract and surreal.
I play the guitar, although I haven't played in a few years (so my Gibson Les Paul just gets stared at these days), and used to write my own compositions too. Even wrote some songs for a band I was once in.
Can't dance to save my life though. redface
My only ability in the artistic sense of the word is that I know a few words or two and can usually string them together coherently, and I have taught myself to play the piano very basically and with a great deal of aural torment to my wife and children.
Other than that I am abject pants. Poetry and Art baffle me. Do you remember the Xmas episode of Father Ted where Dougal is playing with glitter and glue and has it all over his face, hair and everything? That is me to a T.
I am a songwriter and can make a song up about ANY specific lady's name.
wanna try me............

my hairderessing has been called artistic at times and my title at a salon i used to work for was artistic director which i was very proud of
can also do poetry of sorts when i'm in the right frame of mind
House decoration and design sort of
Decorating cakes (still a learning curve and getting into sugar craft)
I cant write poetically or draw though.
Dek has the photography eye
I had zero artistic ability as a child - due directly to being told constantly that my sister was 'the artistic one'. mad
But as an adult, I have learned to play the clarinet, it's ok, not great but I like it. I've also done stained glass windows (well, leaded, but you know what I mean) and I'm currently trying to get watercolours past the 'can you see whet it is yet?' stage. :giggle:
The main thing is I enjoy all of the activities. Even though I'm not the 'artistic one'. biggrin

I'd love to learn to play an instrument, but I know I haven't the discipline for it.
And I'd like to be able to dance, but (I've discovered, since I went to Salsa and line dancing classes), I have absolutely no co-ordination. I'm alright bopping at a disco, but ask me to follow any moves and I'm high-fiving while everyone else is lungeing redface
Cherrytree. If you want to play an instrument then pick up a cheap second hand guitar. You dont have to read music to start and after learning a few chords you will be able to play dozens of songs. It is not difficult, you just have to keep going even when your fingers are sore.
Understanding chord structure will help you if you want to progress to keyboards etc.
I reckon that you will be playing your first song after week 1. If you need any help - I can assist.
Steve
I craft glass, write songs and play the ukulele.
budding guitarists check this out

12 year old Joe Bonamassa
I am seeing him at the Albert Hall in May
Has anyone here ever tried learning the piano as an adult...its a bit of an ambition of mine but not sure how unrealistic it would be...or how expensive lessons might be!!

My mum is taking piano lessons - she is 80 in June. She has always played but wanted to raise her game. biggrin I think she pays about £10 - £15 for a full hour's lesson and loves it.
If you can squeeze the cash out of the budget - go for it. :D:D:D:D:D:D

But, I'm told you have the voice of an angel. To use that creatively is the gift of the gods. I do so want to hear it.
I can write to stir the juices or to force tears to the eye. I have allowed the talent to atrophy awhile but I intend to return!!
.
I used to play the drums...
I claim to have been taught by Cozy Powell (he taught my dad who in turn taught me :lol2smile
Now I am into photography....And useless at that as well :lol2:
As for singing :scared:
