Can I ask a question? why do people want to know if others have paid or not?
I'm not bothered what people have done. Am I just being naive?

Not naive necessarily, but Staggy did explain that the reason he wants to know is so he can be sure those members he contacts via PM can respond. 'Guest' members can't send PMs, 'premium' members can.
I wonder why such a redundant facility is still being offered to guests. But it does occur on other sites, so I presume its a software error or in a shared server. Certainly a 'time waster' indeed.

It's bait. If you were non-paying and received replies to your advert you might just be tempted to pay up so you could reply. That's why you are forced to place an ad if you join and why they are so hot on removing disguised email addresses from adverts. It's all 'marketing'.
which is fine and dandy...if those that choose to be non members and disappear into the sunset have their profiles removed after...lets say a month..
might reduce the site numbers somewhat though, do non paying memberships ever get removed..
please understand this is just to get rid of the profiles that are dead wood...not lurkers that just want to read...ive a feeling but i may be mistaken you can just read without being a members or having any kind of account anyway..

Yeah I know. On some sites they keep emailing your login address about 'interested' members or 'new mail'. Which often turn out to be either the admin team or an automail system at work. Such is the www and all that goes with it.
The response to my support ticket :-
I've read that thread, were not about to change the way that this works, but the search and associated options does need sorting out.
TBH I'm not too sure what the associated options are??? confused

I assume admin means the choices you have to tailor your search, age, interests, looking for etc..
One option that needs to be added IMO is 'last online' with options of 1 week, 2weeks, 1 month or longer. The number of results returned where the member hasn't signed in for between 3 months and 2 years, and is therefore highly unlikely to still be active, is a very high percentage of the recent test searches I've done.

I wanted to add someone as a friend the other day, I put in add friend, the name I thought it was it came up with someone last online 83 weeks ago.
So I don't think they do get removed, I can't see this person being a paying member. dunno

Yes, I noticed that after I posted.
Thanks Unc, it's very thoughtful of you to jump in and point that out, wink
