OK - this may work - or not.
I was thinking random thoughts the other day (I do that a lot - ot gets annoying) and I realised that some sounds are very specific to one decade or another. Not just music styles, but technology sounds etc.
So here goes - I've put down those sounds that occured to me and I'm inviting all to add more sounds to the decades.
1940's
Air raid siren.
All clear siren.
Vera Lynn.
Propeller driven aircraft.
1950's
The whole sound of clacking the lever, speaking to the ooperator and being connected to your phone-call recipient.
That special accent the ladies on the BBC used.
1960's
A bell on a child's tricycle.
The theme for Z-cars.
1970's
The twang of a spring on a child's toy - probably Mousetrap.
The ice-cream van playing a tune instead of rinign a bell.
The sound of clacker-balls (the toy, not a disease).
The music they play while viewing the gallery in Vision On.
the 'tring' ring-tone on those angular phones.
1980's
Jet powered aircraft high overhead.
The sound of the game loading from the tape into the spectrum computer.
People shouting into phones - both 'mobile' and land-line.
1990's
The sound of a dial-up connection - connecting.
The sound of cursing - followed by the sound of dial-up again. LOL
The new emergency vehicle sirens - the ones that sound like a proper siren then what sounds like the horn throwing up. nee-naw-nee-naw-uuurrgg
"for xxx press number 1, for yyy press number 2" etc etc etc
2000's
Those gentle, insistent bings and bongs that tell you to READ & ANSWER THE BLOODY MESSAGE/TEXT/TWITTER NOW!!!!!
Computers on the phone talking to you.
I bet many of these are specific to my memories.
