how far is too far or too close for a meet?

We have travelled 4 hr round trip to play, but being in London that is about 50 miles, We have also met someone within walking distance. I havent bumped into him at the local supermarket yet, but I am sure it wouldn't be a problem if we did. I think we would smile and say nothing. We are still friends!
