I came accross this website while on the scrounge for some free samples  and it is such an eye opener. I am really interested in my health and I am always saying I want to lose weight as my love handles have become more grabable and I am having to lean a little bit motre further forward to see my knees lol However, after answering these few questions, I realise just how healthy I am and that my body fat percentage is 2% into the recommended for women - much to my surprise.
There are a lot of women out there, like me, who think they need to lose a few pounds but, before you do, check this out:

EDIT - I've just checked to make sure the link takes you to it and it says it no longer exists dunno However, click on "go" then "Use our Simple Fitness Calculator". It will take you to it.

So it told me I am obese
And I should consider gaining weight as my body fat percentage is very low indeed
dunno
Well I've just plugged my figures in and I am Normal weight, Normal BF and low risk hip to waist ratio.
biggrin
Thats a bugga..... I dont have a clue what I weigh and dont possess any scales! confused :?

Am underweight... this I knew. But when being slender and toned... it does make ones penis look a lot bigger on a small frame LOL
BASAL METABOLIC RATE (BMR) YOUR SCORE: 1,643(that means??)
BMR is the minimum calorific requirement needed to sustain life in a resting individual. - the amount of calories expended by the body if you were to remain in bed asleep all day. A higher than average BMR means you burn more calories than someone with a lower BMR.
I don't really understand that
I saw a health programme a few months ago, which was dealing with the rumours that the NHS might consider restricting treatment to overweight people
The cut off figure was a BMI of 30 and above. So to prove the stupidity of this, they checked out a rugby team. Most of the guys were well over the 30 yet extreemly fit and healthy. Muscle weighs heavier than fat and therefore works againt you in the calculation

I never understand when someone says that, surely a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle? Or am i reading this all wrong dunno

BMR is usualy defined in that way, but a simpler way (and just as correct IMO) is to say its the amount of energy (calories) required per day to keep your body core at 37C. Heat is lost from skin, the moist warm air we breath out and from No 1s and No 2s when they leave out body.

Muscle tissue is more dense than fat and therefore weighs more.......thats my excuse anyway cool
Ok I'm lost, I thought you had to only have about 1500 cals per day to lose weight?? All the calories are coming out higher! dunno
it told me in the first paragraph im over waite
an in the second i need to put waite on dunno

The medical profession use BMI as it has +ve correlation with BF%, however that correlation is not 100%, so in people (typicaly men) who are very musculer, their BMI's will be higher than average but their %BF may be healthy, often very healthy in the case of rugby players for example.
Remember BMI requires scales and a ruler, BF% measuremnet takes more time and equipment to calculate. The NHS chooses the cheaper option.

You would only require your BMR if you stayed in bed all day and night and never moved.
Daily requiments are BMR + (activity requirment), so if you wish to lose weight, cut down on the sweets and fats and eat far more vegatables, oh and use the car less often, works for me wink
BMI is very misleading and is now under suspicion - I understand.

Apparently my body fat is very low rolleyes Something tells me this site may be a bit off...
It just told me my BMI was - OMG where have I gone! Checked again, I'd mis-typed my height, nearly as tall as winchwench - 55ft 9in. Must learn to type.

My BMI is which is apparently ideal for me.
Body fat is 24% and apparently this is very low and i should consider gaining weight rolleyes How can you get an ideal BMI with low body fat dunno
It then goes on to contradict itself more with the waist to hip ratio, mine stood at (this measures how you store fat) apparently im an apple and at very high risk with fat storing which can give me diabetes and heart disease confused
The BMR was 1220 - but it does not give any comparison on where this sits in the metabolism range and to keep my weight stable i should have a DCR of 1891
Now, i do know i have more of a male shape - i have long ribs and narrow hips - i used the same but put myself as male - the Waist-Hip was still but as a man i was low risk
I think i'll just have another piece of chocolate and forget it lol wink

I really don't know what any of that means but I really can't be bothered to join a gym.

 ah that made perfect sense loon
nope still dont get it bolt
I am sorry but the results on that web page are misleading.
You can only do Body Fat % by either electrical resistance testing or with surgical calipers.
BMI is a good standard measurement of your weight to height ratio and works in the majority of people. It only doesn't work with Olympic Standard Weight/Power lifters. BMI is being discredited these days because people don't want to hear they are unhealthy, therefore they discount the method of measurement.
The more complex measurement is to measure the amount of body fat and lean muscle mass a person has. The lower the body fat with a normal weight range gives a good indicator of high lean muscle mass.
The more lean muscle mass you have the more efficient your body is in converting food to energy and getting rid of it. Hence the reason really fit and skinny people can eat loads of pasties(!) and still not put weight on. Whereas the more amply proportioned among us put weight on just by looking in a cake shop window!
My expertise comes from being a diet counsellor, I hold meetings with people every Monday night. I have a few people people who are indignant that they aren't that heavy. They even state that my scales must be wrong...
i.e."I dont weigh that much at home"
...Even though all sets of my scales are calibrated and certificated with known SI weights down to
The amount of discrepancy is usually in the area of 2.5-5% whereas they could do with losing upto 50KG.
Measurement is the best gauge of how well you are losing weight.
Muscle and Fat both weigh the same, in fact everything does. 1 tonne of lead is the same weight as 1 tonne of feathers...
They just dont occupy the same volume. And this is the same with muscle and fat if you took 1 litres of muscle and weighed it it would weigh and 1 litre of fat would weigh , a difference of 18%.
Now if you turn that example into a human you would have the following, take 2 average persons with a BMI of 25% and both weighing 75KG one has a BF% of 18% and the other 25%, the one at 18% would look skinny whereas the 25% would look curvy! (In this example it could only be males only I am refering to as the BF% range for women is totally different to that of men)

I would reckon there are more than just weight/power lifters that make a mockery of the BMI..
