How much sleep do you need?

I have found as I am getting older that I need less sleep, I fell asleep at last night and am now wide awake. Having just 6 hours sleep I will try in a while to grab a few more hours, but when I was in my mid 20’s I needed a lot more sleep, is it a women thing as a lot of females I know seem to need less sleep than their partners.
Maybe it could be the sleep patterns we get accustomed to from having children I don’t know.

Looking at the time you posted this, you are wide awake at this much to early time of the day too!

I am still awake!
Good morning to you. xxx
I'm an eight hours a night girl. Always have been. I sleep like the dead. I don't get eight hours every night, I tend to burn the candle at both ends and I'm a night owl rather than a morning person. :rascal:
Every day is the same for me in that respect... I crawl out of bed in the mornings to go to work and vow that I'm having an early night cause I didn't go to bed early enough the previous night. Then I get home from work and have this second wind and before I know it it's midnight again! rolleyes
There are some nights I'm really good and go to bed at 10 ish and I feel a whole lot better for it in the morning but it's quickly forgotten. I could sleep for as long as I am able to stay in bed though. I've been known to come home from work after a particularly heavy weekend and go to bed at half seven and sleep till half seven. My mum reckons I'm going to be an insomniac when I grow up.
Unless of course I'm worrying about stuff... in which case I don't sleep well at all and I'm crabbit! redface

Seconded- an utter night owl here. Quite often awake til 2am. However, I rather foolishly married a morning person...
Never, ever wake me up at 4am to have a conversation. Ever. When I finally go to bed, I do so because I'm tired. I want to sleep. The fact that you've been in bed since 9:30, and are now ready to wake up & chat seeing as I've disturbed you is irrelevent. I NEED SLEEP. Geddit?
And last night...yes, I know you have a cold. However, moaning like a pre menstrual fucking poltergeist every thirty seconds is unlikely to garner sympathy. I'm far more likely to relieve your suffering and put you out of your misery.
And another thing, at 5:30 am, you should think yourself lucky I got out of bed to let your cat out. Yes, your cat. I didn't want a bloody cat. My making you a hot drink whilst I was up was positively saintly. DON'T get all arsey that I then slept on the sofa- not if you value your kidneys.
5:30 am isn't a time, it's a nasty rumour. Early mornings are the thing of myths & legends. "Good Morning" isn't a greeting, it's a death threat.
However, I am pootling off in a couple of hours to spend a couple of nights with a fellow night owl. We can stay up late, go to bed, have sex, go to sleep, wake up at a normal time, have more sex- and then sample the rest of the day's wares. Oh, and fit in riding stupidly scary coasters in between the sex. All this, on 8 hours sleep I can do.
On any less- I'm likely to turn into the lovechild of Linda Regan & Jack Torrence.
Vented. wink
Fuck me... you're scary!! :giggle:
bolt
I would be happiest with 8 hours a night, but rarely get it. Like DG I often get up thinking 'I must have an early night tonight' but if I get on the laptop in the evening, the time just flies by.
I find I only sleep through the night if I have nothing pressing on my mind and I have had no alcohol. Even one drink in the evening disturbs my sleep these days. If I've drunk a lot I wake up really hot and imagine it's my liver trying to clear the alcohol from my system. My be me age rolleyes
I go through phases of waking on and off all night, feeling really crappy in the morning, but still don't know why. It isn't due to stress or worries that I'm aware of. Fortunately I'm not in one of those at the moment. Just need a bit more self-discipline with the computer and the red wine sad
On average, 6 hours. I have been known to go a couple of days, then I get a bit edgy.
...but I do like a good hour or two in bed not sleeping.
witchy..why am I not surprised you wrote this in the morning? lol
I've been told I either sleep like the dead in that I don't move a muscle from the position I fell asleep in, or I go the opposite way, flailing about with arms and legs. either way I'm sound asleep and can be woken only by phyisical contact or cannon salves.
as for hours...anything from 3 hours a night up to 9-10, depending very much on the season, my daily activities and so on.
I am definitely night owl..but not overly grumpy in the mornings either.
sodding online forums (kinky and less so) probably keep me awake more than is healthy...but what can I say? I'm addicted
I'm mid 20s and need at least 10hrs sleep. Any less then I struggle to get up in the morning. I've always thought aswell minxy, once u start having kids, u sleep less as ur always getting up for feeds and what not, so ur body gets used to the less sleep u get. That's my theory anyway biggrin
The mr is mid 40s and once he's awake, he' awake, and can not get back off to sleep. He curses me when my alarm goes off at 6:30am for work redface I can wake up at 9am on my day off, be still tired and easily go bck to sleep.

A very Good Afternoon to you, and now time for my nap!! wink
Sleep would be nice... I tend to go to bed around 10:30, get to sleep fine, but wake up at 4 every day, and once awake, that's it. Been living on 5 hours sleep a day for months now. Doesn't half make the day long.
If I don't get enough sleep im a stroppy cow. I I need 8-9 hours a night although I rarely get enough....
More than I bloody gét!
I've always been a night owl - don't do mornings very well at all. For the last 4+ years of doing night shifts my body clock is shot to pieces confused Even on a night off I can't go to bed before midnight but I'm still awake at 7am. On occasion I'm wide awake at 3am, can;t get back to sleep then it catches up with me about 2 days later.
I've turned into the queen of the cat naps
i love my sleep, i can sleep anywhere pretty much anytime
but given that i rarely want to go to bed but push myself, then i dont want to get up either
must be spring on the way though as i have found myself sleeping extremely well and waking up bright in the morning before the alarm goes off, which is unheard of!
Normally around 5-6 hours during the week but I really could do with more. Up at during the week, but at weekends, I do like my lie in bed and normally only roll out of bed around 9am, or later if I can get away with it wink
I like 7 to 8 hours, however I don't get it, the cat alarm goes off at 6am regular as clockwork and then its echo starts as well!
lol
6 hours as a minimum. Although my body clock naturally gives me 14 hours. That's when I'm left alone to wake up on my own.
Saying that, I think it's only hunger that eventually brings me round.
I used to be able to sleep 8-10 hours straight. Went to bed, found a comfy position and sleept like a stone! Since going through the change, i wake 1-3 times a night to use the bathroom, have started to snore (aparently!) and am likely to flail about, and also seem to need less sleep (6 hrs). lol
I've never been a morning person, and enjoy my evenings such a lot that i really dont want to go to bed, besides whats the point of tossing and turning?
Ps: i deny that i snore !!!
In my younger years I could sleep 12-14 hours- no probs. I used to need an alarm to wake me for night duty. But as I've got older I seem to need less. I'm up at most days when working but now can't seem to lay in even if I want to! I wake on a sunday by 7 and usually do my ironing while rest of house is still sleeping (sad moo)
My job means I have to be on call at times and if called to work I can be working for more than 24 hours! Example- on monday was at work by 8am and got home at 11am on Tuesday! I went to bed for a few hours then "died" at about 9 in the evening. When I started this job I could recover in 1 day but now it takes at least 3!
