I was only 10 when I gave up swinging:
Jumped off the swing, got the timing wrong, went up instead of forwards, came down head first, managed to land on my shoulder and execute a perfect forward roll, stood up ready to accept the plaudits of the audience, underestimated my momentum and staggered forwards, tripped over a rock, breaking my big toe, found myself once again progressing in a downward direction, put out an arm to stop my fall, forgot to take my arm off the ground as my trailing leg followed through, kneed myself in the forearm, breaking both bones clean through, tried to put my other arm down, only to find my hand slipping away from me sideways on the wet grass, leaving me with no means of support, visible or otherwise, and eventually coming to rest having used my nose as a brake, which also snapped.
And the moral of the story? If your kids are into swinging, don't take them to Spain for the summer break cos they'll smash themselves up just as surely as if you'd left them at home and really bollox up your holiday.
