Nope!
You are not a killjoy..
Why is it people behave worse than kids?
Teacher has gone out we can do what we like!
I won't tolerate it and nor will the other ops therefore if anyone has a log of activity taking place that is in breach of the rules I WILL ban the individuals concerned and stop them from using the room.
The channel could be monitored at all times of the day or night and should any illegal activity take place we will find ourselves very quickly without a chatroom for good.
If that is what the complete morons who engage in this activity want then go find your own room to lose - starchat will give you one for free!
We just do not want you around in ours!
Is that plain enough for you?
email logs or screenshots of the offenders to if you want action taken.

I completely agree with your point of view and you have my sympathy. I experienced exactly the same thing a few months ago. I objected to references to drugs and the use of bad language and took the brunt of their animosity. It was extremely upsetting and very unpleasant.
I also agree that regular chatters should uphold the room rules when mods and sysops aren't in. The room moderators do a fantastic job, particularly over the last few days, but they are all volunteers and they do have lives and sleep patterns outside the chatroom. If the regular room users don't uphold the rules, or indeed enforce them, it will become a free-for-all for all the idiots in Christendom and, as FredFlintstone points out, the chatroom will be lost.
It's a question of choice, isn't it? Do chatroom users choose to use, abuse or lose?

Hi JudyTV,
I, like all the other OPs sympathise with your position and we will take action against those who break the rules, whenever we come across them.
As you may have seen the Chatroom is going over to Registered Nick's only. This has been done in order to help stop the chaos experienced of late.
The Ops can have the rule breakers banned permanently by having their membership withdrawn not just from the Chatroom but from the whole site.
It may take a few days for the 'Thickies' to realise this but eventually it will sink in. rolleyes
Chin up.

I do not think being sensible and adult is being a spoilsport.....
only prob is that I wonder if any of the lunatics actually frequent the cafe.... I suspect not...

I admire you for having the courage to make a stand against these morons. I am sure that there were many others in the chat room at that time that did nothing but at least you had the courage of your convictions. Rest assured, had I been in there on one of my nocturnal patrols of the site, I would have backed you both 100%. Perhaps those of us that are not Mods or Ops should make a written note of these people’s names and pass them on to those that are.
Judy, you are not a killjoy. That title belongs to the mindless minority that jeopardise and spoil the chat room for the majority. mad :x :x :x :x :x
I do not wish to hijack this , but it seems the most appropriate thread to pose a question...
I have just been to the chatroom... and dutifully printed the instructions to register, put in the Gmanxxx user name and my chosen password... and got straight in...as far as I know I have never registered...
am I going wrong or is all Ok...
ops etc let me know in PM if I have to do anything else..
Gmanxxx
Gman did you follow all of the instructions below?
Type in your desired NickName and click 'Connect Now!'
Type in the following, including the forward slash at the beginning, or it won't work:-
/msg NickServ register youremailaddress yourpassword
Then you should instantly get an e-mail with an activation code in it. Using that number simply enter the following message and you're done:-
/msg NickServ ACTIVATE yournumberhere
NOTE: You may find you then have to type in:-
/join #SwingingHeaven

if you did then your doing it right, if you didn't then please do it.
Feel free to pm me if you have any problems.

The key phrase here is that the chatroom WILL be going registered entry only. Yes gmanxxx, you will have got straight in by just typing a user name and password, the chatroom is still free entry.
If you don't follow the procedure to register and activate your nick properly (as above) then when the chatroom does become restricted entry you won't get in.

Please forgive me for being a bit thick. I know... I am Scottish and a woman .....
Do you have to key that message into the actual chatroom once you are connected? The one with your email addy and password. Heres me being really thick... won't your details be on full view then or is it like when the chatroom logs your IP and only you see it? redface
bunny ... I asked same question... and I was assured that details are only seen by you...
Gmanxxxx
scottish bunny eh mmmmm
Gmanxxxx
Bunny as long as you remember the slash ( / ) before you type anything it will not be seen in the chatroom by anyone else but you
and yes, you do connect to the room
type it in exactly the same place as you would when you are chatting.
does that help at all?
Dawn :silly:
Thanks Dawn thats exactly what I was looking for.
Gmanxxxx scottish bunnies do exist you know we just use recycled batteries lol cheaper you know :confused2:

Hi,
After all the problems from troublemakers and disruptive idiots in the chat-room lately I was totally amazed last night/early morning (Mon, Tues) at the behaviour of some of the registered chatters, immediately the sys ops left the room the chat (as usual) started to deteriorate somewhat. It went to such a low standard that eventually many of the late night/early morning regular chatters left the room in disgust. Quite soon the conversation turned into who, and who wasn’t on some form of illegal substance and what substance was better than the other. The drug talk became quite free and open and when I mentioned that the present topic was in direct breach of the general chat-room rules and was bringing the site into disrepute I was unceremoniously told to shut up and go away in forward and reverse jerky movements. I am aware that admin are, as we speak, doing their very best to weed out those that are spoiling our fun and giving the site a bad name but surely it is also down to the regular and more responsible chatters to deter these people by discouraging this type of topic. I was surprised that no one else tried to steer the topic away from this line of talk. I know it’s a difficult area to police but shouldn’t we all be doing our bit, so to speak, to discourage this or am I not living in the real world? No pun intended here. Perhaps I’m just an old fashioned Tranny that feels too strongly about certain standards. So, am I just a killjoy?

I was there at the time and no, I don't think you're a killjoy; I think you were just reminding people of the rules in the absence of any ops. They still apply when the room is unmoderated and I saw nothing wrong in you pointing that out. I can't remember who it was who said shut up you're not an op, or words to that effect, but whoever it was completely missed the point IMO. Are we not adult enough to moderate our own behaviour, or must we behave like idiots just because we can? I'm all for a bit of trolling banter among friends, but some of the baiting last night was just plain dumb.
Of course the only really effective way to deal with the numpties is to completely ignore them, but sometimes that's easier said than done. I think the thing to remember is that all they really want is a reaction... ANY reaction, and if they don't get one, they'll soon get bored and leave.

Hi JudyTV,
I dont tend to go to the chatroom but I have used IRC extensivly in the past. You were not being a killjoy, quite the opposite based on what you wrote. Well done for standing up and saying no...
Watch it though, you will end up becoming an op if you not careful smile I used to stand up to people in my old chatroom who broke the rules (IRCBAR2 if anyone ever saw it), a few months later I suddenly started getting opped, and I was a regular for a good few years after that :)
