I have just been reading yet another thread where the "This is my opinion" excuse is used to justify a post that either insults previous posters or states ill informed opinion as fact.
I find this irritating. Does anybody else have an opinion?

To make any comment unless someone knows it to be a fact, it is therefore an opinion.
Maybe I am getting paranoid, but seems like another thread with me in mind. :dunno:

I think the point being made in the thread though is that everyone's entitled to an opinion, and I doubt anyone would disagree with that. The difference is, (and I'm not singling you out here Kent, plenty of people are guilty of it) sometimes opinions aren't merely presented as opinions, they're shoved down other peoples' throats. To me (yes, in my opinion) an opinion is just that, and sometimes a conversation, debate, argument from someone else (note from, not with) can sometimes give me enough further information that my opinion might alter. Having someone tell me categorically that I'm wrong and they're right is very different though - when it comes to opinions anyway. Basically, that's the difference between opinions and facts, the two aren't always interchangeable no matter how much someone with an opinion might try to convince me they're right and I'm wrong ;)

I'm sure lots of people agree with you at times... having the ability to strike a balance and understand that it won't happen every time and also knowing that whether your opinions differ with everyone or no-one is irrelevant... what is relevant is how you treat other people in the process of debate.
That is what being a really really nice guy at heart means.

seems a jolly balanced and well put point.
how it's precieved by the reader might be an issue.
then of course, there is the way in which that perception is re-presented to the forum. Perhaps in a points-scoring and argumentative manner.
