Before everybody rolls their eyes rolleyes and says oh no not another posting about testicles & lumps, I have a different & personal slant on this old chestnut.
About a year ago I discovered a small lump about the size of a pea under my left testicle, not on it, didn`t bother me until it started getting bigger and started to ache. So off I toddled to the doctor (ironically with sore feet) and said "Oh by the way....". He said I had a varicocele, very common, no need to worry, but we`ll get it checked anyway. Went to local hospital, ultrasound scan, yes it was a varicocele, nothing to worry about, but I`ll check the kidneys, as problems here can cause them..!
Everything fine, until a week later, when I was summoned back to the hospital and told I had a kidney tumour - I Had no symptoms whatsoever, Doctor said I probably wouldn`t for at least another year to 18 months as these tumours are very slow growing.
It was a T1, still in the kidney, so it was curable - I had the operation - a partial nephrectomy 8 weeks later, the tumour was thankfully benign - only 4% are, and all I have is a large scar, but it coulld have been so different, if kidney cancer is caught late, ie when symptoms actually appear, 75% of them are fatal....
So, sorry to be so serious on my first posting, but this is a heartfelt thing (or should that be testicle felt)...and it seems pertinent in a Swinging Forum, as lots & lots of fondling of balls goes on (well I hope it does..... biggrin ), it`s not just the balls its the sack too....
Thanks for reading, keep fondling....my next posts won`t be this serious....honest wink

Can't think of many better and more worthwhile first posts. Thanks. I'll give a good feel tonight - haven't done it for a while!
Hiya GH wave
Welcome to the Forums - as the gorgeous Sappho says, very thought provoking post (was trying to think of another way to say it without nicking Sapphos words, but can't rolleyes sorry hunny). Happy for you that your results were not as serious as they could have been.
If your future posts are even half as well thought out and put together, you will be an absolute pleasure to read. Have fun biggrin
You know what, I haven't really seriously felt my balls for lumps. That will change starting tonight! Thanks for the post.

Thanks to everyone for their kind welcome and responses I did worry that it would be a bit heavy to start off with, but I do tend to wave the flag/stand on soapbox a bit, everything all clear, just a large (very) scar...which hopefully some of you will see in the future......as your kissing other parts of course.....
Thanks again... smile
Hello GlisteningHelmet and welcome to the asylum. (You know who runs the asylum, don't you?)

As someone allegedly in an 'at risk' group - early (alright mid ffs) forties, 14 years post vasectomy; I have absolutely no problems having this topic brought up now and again.
Glad yours turned out okay.

Wecome, GlisteningHelmet, to the SH forums! wave
Wouldn't dream of rolling my eyes at your post - it's valuable info and we all need reminding every now and again. I had never checked my testicles until the age of 37, when my partner Vix had enquired if I was into the habit...to which I had to reply a sheepish "no". redface I've tried to keep tabs on them ever since, but tend to forget sometimes. Thus, thanks for sharing your story and thanks for the reminder.

Wotcher matey. I have not been here that long, but when I saw the title of this thread, I figured it would be about shaving.. *yawn* However, it is something I have never seen discussed here in my short stay, I am sure it must have been though.. if not.. I am hereby telling you all off!!
As Reese said, I did hassle him into doing the check. The NHS have a brill leaflet out (prolly in your GPs surgery) called "A Whole New Ball Game". But I found this on the net, too:
So what are the symptoms of testicular cancer and how can you check for them? Most commonly, there is a lump or swelling in part of one testicle that can be the size of a pea or maybe larger. It is not usually painful, but some men do get a dull ache in the testicle or their lower abdomen. The scrotum may also feel heavy.
As for examination, the best thing to do is check yourself once a month, ideally in the bath when the scrotal sack is relaxed. Use your fingers and thumb to feel for any lumps or swellings. If there seems to be a lump, check to see if it’s the same in your other testicle.
If you do find something, make an appointment with your doctor, and he will either be able to put your mind at risk or start treatment immediately – either way, it’s better to take action rather than waiting and maybe paying the penalty.

It's pertinent to any adult forum. Apparently I'm in a high risk group, over 40 and had the snip about ten years ago. Do I check for abnormalities? Not consciously no. Would I go to the doctor's if I found one? Eventually yes but like most guys I'd probably wait for it go away of it's own accord.
Perhaps I was brought up in the wrong era but most guys I know are of the same attitude. I've been party to saying to a partner "It's in your best interest to have a mammogram or smear tests etc" but I've never had to do anything similar myself. Maybe it's time the NHS (or the government) tried to change those attitudes.

I check Mars` but didn`t know that getting the snip puts men in a high risk factor...............ooooooooh, he is so going to love me for suggesting he have it done!
But apparently having sex and children early does the same for women, so I guess that makes us even! lol
Good thread btw smile

Not a high risk factor but I believe a higher risk factor.
You're probably the best person to check though because the likelihood is that he won't. We're quite neanderthal when it comes to medical matters.

Sorry Steve, should have watched my wording!

Hmmmm, cept for when it comes to checking me!
