Steve - I've had an even BETTER idea - how about you getting together with more than one lady (I use the term loosely wink ) at a time - you'd be able to see the weight drop off...
In just one hour.....
1-2-1 300 calories
3Some 600 calories
4Some 900 calories
5Some 1200 calories..........
Seems a cunning plan to me baldrick!
And getting back to the point of the thread, I'm also slimming at the moment. Haven't had a very good week so far and am due to get weighed again on Wednesday, but lost 4lb up to now. Every little helps etc.
I'm not doing W W, tried that and just felt hungry all the time sad Not sure if I can say on here which one I AM doing, but it involves red days and green days ;) and if I get hungry I can eat biggrin
Still a certain amount of willpower involved obviously, but I lost 2 and a half stone on it a few years ago and kept it off for about 3 years. (I won't mention the fact that I'm now 4 stone heavier than I was at my lightest redface )
i know lets all join forces an sue Mc donalds :taz:

YOURE ALL GREAT AS YOU ARE SOMEONE LOVES YOU,WE ALL LOVE YOU.. YOU CAN NEVER BEAT BEING YOURSELF AND BEING HEALTHY AND HAPPY. LOVE TO YA,MARK.X.
BE YOURSELF ,YOU CANT BE ANYONE ELSE. LOVE AND PEACE.
I like Alex's idea best, perhaps after the 5some you are just to knackered to even open a bag of crisps and so loose even more! I would ask if they need anyone to research this idea? Sounds good enough to me with some of the things they have paid to be studied in the past?
Here's one for ya' Contract glandular fever and lose a stone in two weeks like me confused
Other than that knock the beer on the head !?!?! evil
It hurts but it works

make sure you run up and down your stairs 20 - 30 times a day
Drink gallons of water
dont think about dieting just eat good food without sauces
walk to work or get a bike
join a gym
just a few thoughts ...................................................... lol
Diets do work - if you consider working to be losing weight. Diets are NOT healthy - they are not good for you. They screw up your metabolism so if you so much as dare to skip the diet for even the shortest time, you put back on twice the weight you would've lost during that time.
I found WeightWatchers relatively easy 'cos you can eat what you want as long as you stick to your allocated points. This means that you can eat LOADS of healthy stuff or, if you really want to, use a whole days' allowance on vodka. Then there's the bonus point system whereby you can earn yourself some points by doing exercise. So, by running from one pub to the next instead of walking and maybe having a quick shag in the bushes along the way, you can earn 2 more vodkas!
The green day/red day crap is SlimmingWorld isn't it? Hmmmmm again, not convinced that restricting yourself to certain combinations of food on certain days is particularly good for you. Have heard lots of bad things about this, similar to Atkins - constipation, stomach cramps, indigestion, bloatedness, headaches etc. Hardly sounds good for you does it? Maybe back in the days when we were hunter-gatherers and relied on the greenstuff till the men came back from their male-bonding/farting round the campfire thing, then yes, green day/red day would've been fine. However, we've evolved from that. I don't believe our digestive system is designed to cope well with that kind of diet in the long-term.
BTW I don't know if it makes any of you feel any better, but I put on 3 stone when I was pregnant. My daughter is nearly 6 and I now weigh more than when I was full-term pregnant. I want to lose it, but obviously not enough or I would've. I LOVE food!

At the risk of totally going against my post of yesterday re: not getting into arguments on here, I have to strongly disagree with the above. I followed Slimming World for about 18 months and have never eaten so healthily. There are a lot of misconceptions about it from people that haven't actually tried it, but it definitely isn't food combining (which is VERY unhealthy)
You aren't restricted to particular food groups, its just that you can have unlimited amounts of one food group and measured amounts of another, but I'm still waiting for someone to show me a food that contains only protein or only carbohydrates.
It's actually all about the energy density of foods, ie, the amount of calories and fat compared to how filling it is. This can get extremely complicated, but I remember someone asking once how it worked. The consultant replied with a question: "How does your computer work?" lots of dunno and some bright spark answered that she didnt know, she just flicked the switch and it DID work. Like any other diet, if you follow it, it will work, I prefer to leave it to the experts as to HOW.
All I know is that I lost a fair amount of weight, never went hungry, didn't suffer with any of the complaints you listed AND managed to keep it off for about 3 years without ever restricting myself to the point of feeling hungry.
Yes, I have regained that weight and another stone and a half to boot, but thats down to many factors, including splitting up with my husband and moving house more times than I care to remember within the space of a year.
To the person that said "We love you the way you are", thank you smile Unfortunately, I don't love me the way I am now, and that's the best reason I could ever have for actually doing something about it.
I went to the doctors and got a diet sheet of things you should eat and things you shouldnt, that simple, its common sense more than anything!!
I lost 6 stone and a pound at last count,so it does work, youve just got to be sensible about it!!
i've got to agree with AC on this one (as AC said I don't want to get into an argument either, so I'm just offering my experiences).
I've been eating the same foods as Countess over the last few months and the choices are far healthier than what we had been eating previously. We'd mostly have a meat and chips or something else deep-fried, but the foods we're eating now are far better. we still eat meat, but with salad or pasta. It's great and it doesn't take any longer than the foods I was cooking previously. It's mixing your foods, but in measured quantities.
It's all about changing your habits more than dieting and once they've changed you just go for the healthier stuff out of habit. You are still allowed a number of "sins" per day, but they encourage you to stickk to about 10-12 per day (individual foods have a certain number of sins). Booze is allowed as well, but at the given sin rate (I know as Countess has got a directory of sins that lists the sin value for the majority of foods).
I'm not a fan of the Atkins diet for the reasons that Marya has given. The diet cannot be considered as balanced by anyone and I'd probably only follow it under advisement, but it works for some people.
As mentioned before the best way to loose weight is to do more (exercise) and eat less (fatty foods especially). That way the body burns the fuel rather than storing it.
Another thing I've discovered is what time you eat can play an important part of the diet. For example eating a large meal at night isn't a good idea as your body doesn't need the energy for sleep, so it stores it as fat. It's far better to eat a large, healthy breakfast or have a decent lunch and just have a light snack for dinner.

Ok, fair play to you. Diferent strokes for different folks and all that.
Without getting into an argument about which diet is the best/healthiest ( abit like another thread that argues which ISP is the best) I will also go back to my original statement - that I believe all faddy diets to be bad for you and unhealthy and even dangerous.
If an individual had the willpower to stick to one of these diets, then they have the willpower to make the decions and choices that mean simply healthy eating. I don't think there's anything healthy about being allowed to gorge yourself on as much as you like of a particular food-group on one day and not on the next. It smacks of binge-eating to me. Furthermore, I think weighing out food and counting points and sins and God knows what else these so-called experts call certain types of food (to make you feel guilty about eating it) is encouraging obsession which can lead to eating disorders.
All I know is what I've learnt from studying Human Biology and the effects of dieting are not good!
Everyone knows what is sensible eating - what is healthy and what isn't. I strongly believe it's all down to willpower - the willpower to look after yourself and not line the pockets of the huge companies that are doing nothing but exploiting people's insecurities.
END OF RANT! I hereby promise never to post on this thread again unless I can come up with something light-hearted and (hopefully) amusing. Apologies to AC and anyone I may have offended xxx

Errrm, no thanks, Debbs!! bolt
What I don't understand is that after giving birth - 6lb 7oz of baby and God knows how many pounds of amniotic fluid, placenta and any other yucky crap - I didn't lose an ounce!
Salmonella poisoning had me spending 3 days with my ass on the toilet and my head in the sink and I didn't lose a single gram in weight.
It just doesn't seem fair.
(I'm down to 4 Twixes and 1 Snickers, btw. You'll have to be quick if you want to share, Busty!)

.having said my bit i must add that cutting out the fats!........which i had to do!..help me lose loads
This is the point at which I am going to contradict myself entirely!
I lost a stone on WW last year as part of a pilot scheme run by my health centre. Basically, myself and 9 others got 12 weeks' free subscription to WW. I had to beg to get on the course 'cos apparently I wasn't overweight enough. What swayed it for them in the end was that I had spent 3 months on their smoking cessation thingummy and had piled weight on due to that.
I've put the stone back on and started smoking again. I have NO willpower!!! But silver lining and all that - get to eat what I want, when I want and haven't put any more weight on.
Hi there, just do it at your desk,
there are loads of things you can do while still working on a PC
I wanna know who told Yin Yang that Steveg was a good looking HUNK pmsl rolleyes
Yeah, bit of a problem for me too. Due to a couple of summer colds, bits of employment etc I have been unable to do the huge amount of cycling I planned (well I'd have gone out at least a couple of time redface ), & I'm a bit of a lard ass sad . However, when I am HEALTHY, some cycling, combined with no booze or crisps or peanuts ( :P ) can knock some weight off me. So not hard once I apply myself.
Must gobble up those papadoms in the cupboard with some lime pickle tonight... just to clear the decks of course confused

Shurrup you, you wrinkly old git! biggrin
From what I’ve managed to pick out so far the general advice seems to be not to go on a diet but to change the diet you’re already on, cut out the alcohol and get a bit of exercise. I think that more or less puts me right back where I started with my original thoughts.
I don’t think I need to change my diet too much cos I rarely snack between meals and I hardly ever eat sweets or chocolate so it looks like it’s going to have to be the “no cider and a bit of exercise diet”.
Well, I’ve foraged under the stairs and dug out the bathroom scales so I’ll just have to see how I get on. Willpower eh?……..what’s that????
Steve
Steveg...Last November I weighed in at a gargantuan 17.5 stone and 5'7 tall ( a rite fat Fcuker)...... Now I weigh 10.9 stone and still the same height......waist went from 46" to 30"........ Dead simple to loose weight..... try and cut out as many carbs as you can..... if it comes in a packet then don't eat it...... try and get into cooking yer own food...only use fresh ingrediants, meat, veggies, etc...sound boring but wow there are some good recipes out there...if not make yer own up it is much more fun...... Oh by the way my inspiration came from spliiting with mi missus and looking in a mirror....how is a tricki girl going to fancy a fat bugger like me..... the final tip when yer feel full...STOP eating........ don't beat yerself up matey it is just a change of regeime, nothing else..... trust yourself matey and it will work.... the only problem is it will cost you a fortune in new toggs....worth every penny though
STAY STRONG......
Steve - dont even bother with the scales if you dont want to - just get a pair of trousers that are a bit tight (you must have loads!!!! lol) and you can measure your progress that way - gives you more incentive when you see clothes fitting you better  How much you gonna lose before London Munch then???
Yer damn rite Fembernie....I weighed myself once last Nov and only again in August.... it's how ya feel, cus if ya feel alright then ya will look alright.....
