What the hell is wrong with people?! 1000 pound loans to cover Christmas expenses?! Entire news items on the cost and stress of `keeping up with Christmas`?! Does anyone have any idea what the average child has spent on them for Christmas presents?! Of course you do, some of you who are spending this amount are reading this now! STOP IT! mad
I`d like to add at this point that I am spending less than 100 quid on the season, and my electricity bill is safe for all my decorations are on the insideof the house whereIcan enjoy them. If the neighbours are somewhat alarmed at the `black hole` which is our house at the end of the cul-de-sac, they are more than welcome to fork out for the cost of running all that tack!
Even the school news letter referred to Christmas as `coming back with a vengence`! WTF?!
Is everyone trying to provide thier kids with the kind of Christmas others are providing thier kids? If so, when does it end?
I haven`t done my shopping yet, can`t be arsed, but when I do, I know I can fit it into a day. I have bought one present, and a pack of cards, and for practical reasons the kids are getting pretty good presents.....two of which are unwanted items from friends, hasn`t cost me a penny.
They`ll be bloody grateful too, for that`s how I raised them, they were grateful last year too, when one recieved some lego, and another a coat, and some Claires accessory crap. The PC I am currently using was from a Christmas where we decided noone in the family would get a present, we would all chip in for the PC instead.
So Christmas is all about giving? Ask yourself this;
Would you expect anyone to have to take out a 1000 loan in order to buy you and others a present matching todays standard? I think not.
Me? I`ve always been more than happy with something nice for the bath, something to pamper myself with. It doesn`t cost a fortune! That`s what I`ll be getting my mum!

Darn.....
There I was thinking someone else was planning the same xmass as me.
Kids free (but no longer sad about it)
 I'm gonna be a ho ho ho lol
Sorry to disappoint, I`m already taken. He`s busy wrapping my scouring pad as I type

well this year i've got something fun from my mum and dad, usually its something useful so i/we dont have to buy it ourselves. Daz's main present from my rents was our new sofa bed - we needed it and couldnt afford it - so hey presto, mum and dad stepped in! much as the fun things i dont need are nice, we're not in a position to be affording things we need either, so we appreciate them more as presents!
That`s kinda how it worked with us when we started out.........still does 17 years down the line! lol
Some of my Aunts have gotten wise to me spending monetary gifts on stuff the kids/house need, so they tend to stick with pampering gifts for my birthday, and cash for Christmas!
This year is going to be good. I replaced my dead father-in-laws armchair with a Christmas tree (I loved the symbolism), and am finally able to give MIL the Christmas she deserves biggrin
Er yeah, goodwill and all that! redface

I admit I probably go overboard on the kids at Christmas but I don't have a huge family to buy for and I start stocking up in September/October time so the cost is spread out somewhat. I do hammer the credit card a bit rolleyes but I'm sure I can sort that out later, i usually can. I think the past two years I've also overcompensated for their dad not being with us any more, especially with my eldest who doesn't get much from my ex.
I don't think I have spent a grand though, at least I bloody well hope I haven't!
MQ, you are a bad person and must be punished!!

Well as much as I stand on my soapbox slagging off the latest commercialised aspect, I will hold my hand up to hating one `traditional` Christmas sentiment...............
I really hated hanging the decorations the kids made at playschool on the tree....
THEY LOOK LIKE CRAP! rolleyes

I totally agree!!! I hate the fact that chiristmas is all really just about consumerism and making people bad for not buying into it! I spent about £100 on mines xmas this year + am giving her my old pc with a new monitor and the only reason shes getting the pc is because well personally I think she deserves it I dont go overboard with birthdays, xmas easter and quite frankly think its all bullshit and if i was religious then id probably wanna be a jevohas witness so I dont have to celebrate half of it but then i figured its more about the having a nice relaxing holiday and giving a few (yes a very few) pressies and just chilling out! As far as the religion part goes well thats just bullshit but I think when Im buying presents I do limit my funds and would even if i had more cash I just hate buying into traditional anything and can be a bit anarchistic just for the sake of it!??
Just me? Always gone against the grain of authority! People are the ones who matter not status, class etc!
Anyhoo blah blah blah yet again lol
I was brought up to believe the old anagram SANTA/SATAN
Big red guy who gives out little offers of temptation but once a year .
Who else would break into your house in the middle of the night, eat your biscuits, drink your drink and leave his calling card of little temptous offerings.
SATAN/SANTA same guy as far as I can see.
