I have a Dell Streak running Android (2.1 I think). I have a load of photos on it, I can see them on the Gallery. I have a synch cable that I can use to connect to the PC. When it's connected, Dell Mini 5 (whatever the heck that is) fails to work but 3 other functions work. But when it's connected I can't see the photos, either on the phone or the PC. Certainly no download happens. It says the SD card is missing and mentions something being mounted or not.
Frankly I have no idea what is going on. The basic question is:
Who do I get photos off my android phone?
send them to your email account
easy peasy
Damn I was hoping for a slicker way - and the cable cost £25. banghead
Does it give you an option, once connected, to "explore" your phone like it would your hard drive? I don't have an android phone but that's what I need to do with my windows mobile device to download the pics. They'll be hidden somewhere in the file structure somewhere.
Worth a look.

There is no 'explorer' option at all. Android doesn't seem to have that function included.
the sd card needs to be mounted (ooooeeerrrr missus). Go to settings > SD Card & phone storage and mount it from there. You paid £25 for a 'sync-cable' doesn't have a normal mini usb connection?
Whats the matter with bluetooth. A bluetooth dongle would have been less than £25 even if the PC does not already have it.
A "Dell Mini 5" is just another type of device.
I've copied the relevant section from the user manual below. Have a bash & see if it works.

Synchronizing Your Dell™ Streak and Computer Using Dell PC Suite
Connect to a Computer and Install Dell PC Suite
1 Connect the 30-pin-to-USB cable to your device and a computer. Wait for your computer to automatically install the software driver.
2 From the Select Communication Method dialogue that appears, touch Copy media files to/from your computer (MTP) or Copy other files to/from your computer. Touch the OK button to confirm your selection.
3 Once the installation is complete, a new “Removable Disk” will become available on your computer. This will allow you to view the contents of the microSD card from your computer. (in file explorer on your PC)
4 Browse the contents of the Removable Disk from your computer, double-click on the folder Dell PC Suite, and then double-click on to install the synchronization software.
NOTE: You can also download Dell PC Suite by visiting and selecting your product model.
5 Once the installation is complete, the Phone Connection Wizard window appears. Follow the instructions and enter the name of your device to let Dell PC Suite identify the device.
6 The Dell PC Suite window opens once it detects the connected device. The icon appears at the bottom right of the computer screen.
NOTE: If Dell PC Suite does not start automatically, on your computer desktop click Start? Programs? Dell? PC Suite.
