The mischevious part of me is thinking that if you want to make money from the site, why not charge the single guys to access the photo ads and give free premium membership to everyone else.
This is an unpopular thing to say, but it might help sort out some of the imbalances in who uses the photo ads part of the site. At the moment there are a LOT of single guys, compared to the number of couples/single females advertising for them.
Oh, do we get an invite to the Symbios Xmas party.

Dino - I did it and I saidit wasn't the new owner doing it. I have removed it to another part of the site where it is intact - however it was clearly in breach of the site AUP and couldn't stand.

As you admit to not knowing the site too well, here's a bit of constructive feedback on your proposals...
The new features:
One unified login and members area for the whole site...
One fundamantal point you may have missed about this site is that it's actually 4 different fairly insular communities, that only have limited cross-over.
1) The Cafe/Let's Meet Up crowd are the ones you are talking to now. We are probably the most resistant to change, and we are also quite possibly the biggest drain on bandwidth, racking up 1000s of page hits per day each.
2) The chatroom crowd. Lovely people, excellent speed readers, but have a tendency to press x dozens of times whenever someone they know turns up. The hardcore use MIRC and therefore probably can't be advertised to.
3) The Dogging Forum people. Some overlap with the rest of the site, but it can be seen as a bit of a ghetto. Not much revenue potential unless you can do a deal with NCP car parks.
4) Photo Ad users. As you know if you've looked at the traffic figures, this is the big bit of the site, but the crossover from there to the other parts isn't as big as you might imagine. Probably your best bet for money making, as this is the part of the site with the most transient visitors, and the part of the site that people would probably expect to be a commerical venture.
Because this site is so split, unless you want to drive traffic from one section to another, I don't really see the value of a unified log-in, tying in IRC will present headaches, and the ability to ban people from certain parts of the ite but ot others will need work to support.

You have bought access to this resource, so why not use it, and ask us how you could do things better or make money without driving us away?

Hawd the bus!!!!! so/..... sorry but its ok for the site "new owner" to come waltzing into our chatroom with rules that were set in place to keep the chat room running smoothly, to come waltzing in... breaking almost every rule on his first visit, and i'm expected to do absolutely feck all.... listen you mods may well have held the new owners over a barrel with time scales to "make it public or else" but us mere Op's tend to let each and every single person have their say.... and in saying that I have NO CLUE why KBUK's thread has been pulled/deleted/shifted/or... whatever technical term you's have for removing it from public view..... but it must be a good one and good on ya's....

Unlimited pictures was put across as a private gallery, accessible by whoever is granted access. That would certainly be useful as it's entirely optional and beneficial as it will tie in with the personal ads (as is my understanding)
Video chat would probably not work due to the extreme demands on bandwidth, not only on the server but on each members connection. Maybe in about a year?
Using Java as the chat medium might be better than mIRC, but I can't see much difference between the two from using them on different sites.
Maybe not distance displays, but location menus and a search facility for that would be much appreciated, with the option for anonymity of course.
