When I first heard the news this morning I said summa tlike I aint gonna op for a company thats gonna make money off my back..
I fear I have mellowed slightly.....And it aint just cause we've been promised a free this or a discounted that or a cut price the other...
I honestly feel a period of time should be allowed for the transition to take place and for ALL to see how they feel about the place then..
Maybe 6 months.....It sounds a lot but believe me it wont be long before its gone..
I'm not impressed by the fact that the chatroom may be moving/changing again.
It took us a long time to get some peeps registered but then really they should have put the pc back in the box and got a refund.....The vast majority managed to register wth relative ease and find it an easy room to use..In fact many are now switching from java to mIRc as it gives them greater contro..lt would be a mistake to do away with the current room in my opinion..
Have plenty more to add but after 8 hard hours graft at work the fingers are willing but the brain is numb....

And what about Avatars? Now i'm guessing that Hat Trick, who's fine comedy series provided my avatar pic (and those of the various thieving toe rags on here, who shall remain nameless
) will not be losing sleep over it's unauthourised use, but as a company are you going to slap us with a big list of panicky rules on things like this and have some of the life strangled out of the postings, all in the name of legal safety?

Dear Elliot and Co,
as one of the "old timers" i agree that it is a bit of a shock.
i tend to think that if things are working well (wich they obviously are.... else you would not have been interested in buying the site would you?) then what is the need to change them.
in all honesty - appart from the site loading/working faster, none of the new things you are offering seem to be of interest to anyone who is already here.
... perhaps you could try and "sell" them to us.
you can dress is up in anyway you wish, but when a site is being run as to how to make the most profit rather than how to be the best swinging resource then i do not think you can honestly say that it is not going to change for the worse.

If you look at the numbers (within the sections of Sh adverts)... a huge percentage is guys looking for guys... so perhaps the site should ban all couples and just accept gay people and block all the bi-sexual and straight couples that want to meet others?
Having been on the swinging sceen for 19 years both as a swingle and a couple... its about being able to accept people wanting sexual fun... the moment a section is excluded or included by ability to pay then the whole thing falls down and no matter how its dressed up its paying for sex even if the money doesnt find its way to thoes that swing and its a club or internet company making the money it can with a leap of mind be classed as prostitution, which is why a club in leics has such a bad rep.... let as many guys in as pay, and who gives a shit about the couples or the single women because they dont pay!

While any venue, club, or web site has to pay its way charging disparit costs depending on sex is to my mind wrong and were it not for the loop hole of "private membership" would be violating the sexual equality act... perhaps we should charge couples and single women looking for single guys more as they might be classed as desperate for a good shag? Well I understand peeps need to go to bed, but having started reading this thread I had to read to the end and now I knackered... Still I think as a longish term member I need to put an oar in here as well. (Would have said this earlier but was going to see new HP movie)...
So first off, Mark you still have to meet me one day... no sneaking off. It was really good to see from Martin that you are, and will remain a member. I can understand taking a few steps back for a while (got to allow new people room without seeming like a shadow) but I hope to see you around again one day with your lovely wife. Thank you for all your hard work over the last few years.
Martin and Elliot, well quite a day you peeps have had. I think you have seen a lot of all the sides of us today, and reading your responses has given me what I hope is a good insight into your heads. I would say Martin that you should not take things to heart, especially now. However I respect your wish to defend your company that you and collegue built up. If you come to hold the SH community in similar regard to your company we will have nothing to fear. Elliot however, you seem as mad as the rest of us, sure you will find this an interesting challenge to work on technically.
So here we are then, new owners, new options. It is not all doom and gloom peeps. Lets be honest, poor Mark did not have the time to put into creating any new features. I will miss him loads, but there is more that could be offered. We may not want all of it, but if the site will continue around a free forum board and free basic adds system and chatroom what do we lose? People have mentioned the law (and I have a lot of respect for Reese), but we already comply with it as Mark did not want to get sued anymore than our new owners. It should not really be different. As for our moderators, they are great peeps and I hope they will want to remain mods for the same reason we want to be members, our friendships on here.
So lets see how this pans out. After all the secrecy is not unusual in negotiations like this. I have been in a number of company takeovers (I keep working for good companies other people want) and as others said it was not that bad in the end. Deep breaths my friends, we are all still here, the site is still here, and for now it is safe and free and they plan to keep what is here now intact. The new thing is add on services that will be charged for if you want them, and some people will. If this helps pay for development and bandwidth it is better than the site going the way of the dodo.

The words have been typed add hock, the minor inconsistancies only go to show this is not big corporate marketing gibberish but real thoughts from real people. Seems like an awful lot of stuff has come and gone since i first ventured onto the net in 1993 (feels like a long time ago) I guess the main thing here is the site isnt shutting up shop - a few few fave places i've frequented can now only be found on :-(

What is an issue is the role of the mods and ops - there is currently continuity running through from when the current forums were created to the present day and significant numbers of people developed with the site as mark created it. Its called having a stake in something and seeing it grow - loyalty if you like.
I know for a fact the amount of time Jags spends clearing tossers out of the ghetto forums and i'm sure all the other mods/ops are just as dedicated. In my experience you only get that level of volunteer effort in non profit organisations - there are plenty of examples around if you think about it community centres, preserved railways etc. where folk have a passion for whatever it is theyre supporting. Now thats fine as long as everyone feels equal but when said company starts taking a profit then your volunteers are going to be less enthusiastic about clearing out the sludge. Okay so they could be paid but i cant see there is going to be the level of recompense required to keep these gals/guys doing the shittier end of the job.
Loose that control and thats the end of of the forums (cant comment on chat cos i dont go there) its probably worth remembering that controlling the idiots on a site like this takes a *lot* more effort and judgement than your average technical discussion site.
I might be wrong but it seems to me that the current status quo is going to be difficult to maintain.
At the end of the day the site is basically an irc server/channel and a phpBB bulletin board that happens to have a loyal following and some *very* dedicated volunteers. Some new fetures might work but theyre only going to be worthwhile if they increase the userbase and personally i dont understand where that increase is going to come from because the high volume supply of punters is currently (rightly) modded out due to lack of maturity / general lack of braincell functionality (i'm talking about the can i have a shag tonight? brigade).
(I was going to say something about video and preferring to use MSN but i'm suffering severe brainfade and need to get some sleep.)
