Important information for all drivers

The Mr came across this on the msn homepage today. Workers of the oil refinery in Scotland are striking over rows with pensions. It is going to cause fuel shortages from next Friday (25th April) and could cripple supplies for a month. It could mean no fuel supplies for at least a month in Scotland and Northern England, but could affect the rest of the country.

Thanks for the info. I do have a 'but' though. Panic buying like this is what causes shortages in the 1st place wink

So one refinery shutting down for a couple of days and half the Country will have no petrol?
Shows how much spare capacity we have (if its true) and also good info for the bad guys!!

Point 1 - we have no spare capacity - we buy in a significant percentage of what we need and are hard pressed to increase that at such short notice.
Point 2 - the refinery processes cannot be switched on and off like a light bulb - it takes time to close them down safely and far longer to restart them also safely.
Point 3 - I suspect the 'bad guys' know more about our oil and power supply situation than the majority of us on here.
Just read that back - sounds pedantic - I blame the hour and the red wine. biggrin
