I sleep really badly most of the time and wondered whether you lot had any good tips or hints for helping you to sleep (sensible ones please lol)
My doctor wants me to take sleeping pills cos the problem has become so bad but I'd rather not resort to medication
maybe you just need someone to tire you out... wink
That plan is already in operation lol
Im like that I get terrible insomnia sometimes, I dont think Ive had a full nights sleep for years. The past couple of weeks have gotten really bad, even tried nytol which worked a bit for a couple of days in getting me to sleep but after about 3 hours i was wide awake again.
I go to bed most nights and just get up and down all night going to the loo I think thats just boredom, tried hypnotherapy and other things including the aforementioned nytol, cut out caffine after 5 o'clock and other things and nothing works. rolleyes
But then other times I get so knackered all i seem to do is sleep for days?? I seem to be hyper till Im worn out completely them in just completely done in sometimes for a week or two, mostly a couple of days will suffice but other times im just drained?? Dunno why? Ive had sleeping problems for years now and have never ever found anything that works long term!
I don't sleep well either. Find it hard to sleep and harer to wake up on time because it took ages to sleep in the 1st place. Getting frustrated about not sleeping doesn't help either as you try too hard and the sheep just keep you awake jumping your head. One way i've found helped occationally when i worked night and found daytime sleeping hard, was counting backwords from 10,000 or any number long enough to stop your brain wandering and staying active. A warm Glass of milk used to help too with a splash of ground nutmeg to aid sweet dreams. The part I hate the most is when your really really tired and think to yourself you'll be out like a light, then you close tour eyes and they start flickering! Whats that all about? Am I the only one who gets this? I wouldn't want to rely on pills to get me to sleep though i did spend long enough relying on a Drink or Ten.
Hope You Sleep well and find the method you need.
ChrisG
I have found that you must stop your brain and thoughts from taking over whilst trying to get to sleep.
Only concentrate on one thing, do not let your thoughts waver.
I know only to well how difficult this is to do.
I repeat one word over and over again this usually send me to sleep.
The word is WIFE.

I'm a chronic insomniac, and have been for a very long time. My body clock has been destroyed by twenty years of shiftwork. confused
Before resorting to hard drugs, have you tried the standard remedies like a cup of warm milk?
Avoid stimulants close to bedtime, such as tea, coffee, cola, chocolate.
It's important not to try to sleep, that just puts you under pressure when you need to be relaxed. I usually read something light, but just lying there thinking about anything except sleep is also good.
Even if you don't actually sleep, mental relaxation will be beneficial, so don't think about anything too heavy.
Keep your bedroom window open no matter how cold it is - shutting the windows depletes the oxygen in the room and increases the carbon-dioxide, which inhibits your breathing reflex and causes you to wake up with the proverbial "start".
Central heating dries the air and blocks up your nose, so turn it off.
Have sex or masturbate before sleep: Orgasm causes an endorphin reaction which has a natural tranquilizing effect.
If all else fails, watch Channel 5
i don't have any trouble getting to sleep since having the kids, but there have been times in the past.
try yoga thats supposed to be you want to look up some relaxation techniques i know they can be excellent.
theres always the good old remedies like a hot milky drink,a nice relaxing bath and maybe even try reading a book in bed,it messes with your eyes when your knackered and just makes you fall fast asleep biggrin

Have tried all of the above and doesn't seem to help
Sick of watching baseball, golf and now competition poker on channel 5 too
I've suffered terrible insomnia in the past and aside from the normal things, one thing that really helps me is a radio. I tune it to a talk station (5 Live works for me), not music and if the subject is one you're really interested in then change the station. I have it on very quietly - not so quiet I have to strain to hear it, but almost.
Then - and I guess this is the hard bit to explain - I try and empty my mind of everything until all that's there is the sound from the radio, and I try and hear it without actually listening to it so I'm aware of a sound but not aware of what they are saying. I find I usually drop off to sleep quite easily.
If you want to try this I wouldn't use a sleep function on a clock radio...when I do that I find I lie there thinking 'OMG if I'm not asleep in 20 mins the radio will be going off.' So I just leave it on all night.
This can be a bit of a pain if you aren't alone though so it probably isn't for everyone, but maybe it might help a little.
Will try and look through my books later for some rememdies .. lavender oil is supposed to put you to sleep (aids sleep) but I personally find the smell keeps me awake.
Another remedy I've been told about is to listen ......go to sleep etc and listen for the white noise .. so empty your mind of everything and listen to that noise that exists (really hard to explain) and that helps.
Otherwise can't really help .... I suffer terribly when Morbius isn't here and it's almost like I'm too scared to sleep (my paranoia) and so I can understand.
Thanx for the advice all
hopefully it will get sorted out soon - although I have had sleep problems for the last 4 yrs.
My mother swears by lavender but it's one of the smells that I really don't like!
My body is telling me I'm getting a cold so maybe I will get some sleep
Sore throat, hot flushes etc and if I get a coldsore then I'm definately off to bed with the lemsips lol

Get yourself to the health shop and get either some echinacea or propolis.
ok here's a coldsore prevention (bloody works too) 3 drops teatree oil, 3 drops eucalyptus oil and 10 ml vodka! soak a cotton bud with the concoction and apply to lips ..
Aromatherapist btw ...
Ive suffered for years and look like a walking zombie most of the time. I have tried most things and only resort to sleeping tablets when I desperately need sleep.....zzzzzzzz
You have my symapthy, hope its resloved soon.

Personally I have a series of programs I love, but know by heart. Like Red Dwarf, or Blackadder. I put those on, sound only (Got surround so I can turn off TV but listen).
I find it enough to keep me amused (Staring at ceiling soo boring) but as I know it I don't stay awake to listen. Although if you don's put the DVD on sleep the menu music will drive you mad and waste all the effort smile

What time is it?

It's sad
Well my insomnia kicked in yet again last night I think I must have got about 40 minutes sleep and when yet again after finally dosing off just after six i woke up at 3 minutes to 7 and screamed fuck 3 times at the stipid alarm clock "somehow hoping it will alter time, but as usual It didnt work"
So annoyed everytime I tried to get comfy my bloody arms got sore. Think I need something myself from the chemist today or I will definetly go mad! 2 Nights with no sleep and I got college tomorrow, I think the likely hood I get any sleep tonight is highly unlikely!
Im just of to find that bloody scream thread now! rolleyes
I know your not gonna like it surpriseduch:
But I fine if I'm on the comp till very late, it stops me from sleeping
You feel so switched on and can't settle.
Or maybe it's coz I'd been downloading loads of porn redface so only have myself to blame
Try cutting all caffine out of your diet for a week - no coffee, no tea, no cola. This may be very tough if you are as addicted as I was in my late teens.
It's a little known side-effect of caffine that it can cause sleeping problems, even if you are not drinking it late at night, and you never get a caffine buzz from drinking it.
Im beginning to go mental with this no sleeping thing, really doing my head in!! Im off to the chemist to buy some herbal sleeping tablets or something, tho only thing worse than having no energy is not having enogh energy to shag and Im not having that!! evil
Hmmmm, how about the classic cup of hot milk?
For somereason when i was younger if i cried, like when i got told of, i would sleep really well, so maybe you should just spend a good couple of hours crying :P
Or just do a 10 mile run in the morning and evening i am sure that will help you sleep.
Lavender, all that aromatherapy shit should work, although i aint sure not really into that sort of stuff
i've just remembered when i wa at boarding school i used to find it difficult sleeping, mainly coz i was abit of a tear away, but my uncle told me to get to sleep the best thing to do is to listen to your heart beat. Its weird and works wonders.
Stethescope??? either that or you sound like you may be about to have a heart attack??
na just lie back relax and listen.
Its alot louder than you thin esp if you are very relaxed and thers no other noise. Its quite peaceful too
If i may make a suggestion... purchase some 5-HTP from holland and barratts. Take one before you go to sleep and you'll find you don't wake up.. until the morning atleast. smile
