I was thinking about IWD (Its Thursday 8th March) and how life has changed over the years for women.
IWD, started in America with groups of women protesting at dangerous working conditions and later to raise the profile of women's rights.
Its now held to celebrate women's rights and reflect on achievements and progress made by women all over the world. It enables women to take part in activities that aren't always accessable or have an opportunity to take part in.
On a personal note, Ive usually helped organise or attended some event to celebrate.
Ive always loved IWD. Ive enjoyed meeting women from diverse backgrounds whose life opportunities haven't been great. Seeing how excited some are at trying something for the first time at 40+, finding some useful information that helps make their lives and families better etc etc
Looking at it from a different than normal angle (well for me anyway hehe), I wondered how female members from SH how would like to spend the day? What activities would you organise or like to see organised for women members?

I think it's great also Anais. I'm currently reading a book on Women in history 1700 - 1800 and it's fab, really really interesting and clearly shows that women even back then worked hard, played hard (oh how they loved sex!. What's even funnier is the little "ideas" they had ie., could only get pregnant in the "doggy" style! jeesss. I would be falling pregnant all the time if that were the case!
There was no divorce back then and women basically were stuck in unhappy marriages but just got on with it.
hmmm...I was going to suggest:
a masterclass on writing the ultimate 'fook off' pm....?
a darts tournament by the SH ladies teams featuring photo's of exes and cock shots, with donations to breast cancer research for every direct hit to an eye
a 1-day workshop on 'twatspotting'
or a 'karaoke in 30 minutes: words and actions to Sisters are Doing it for Themselves' tutorial but then I read Anais' strap-on workshop idea and that one's won me over lol
I'm in  rotflmao
I dont see this as being very fairrrr! Women get a day dedicated to them, is there a man dy?
Not yet sweetie, but you can join in ours if you want
I just added 'knife-throwing for beginners' to the list of possible activities and we could deffo do with a volunteer for the strap-on workshop wink lol

I love the older writings on womens issues... fascinating stuff. I remember reading one about poverty and the status of women. Seems if you married your class status went up but your predicted age of death went down.. confused :? Strangely enough, age of death went up for guys if they married!!! :?
So our status went by the male, thats if we had one in our lives. Still did for a long, long time.....

Was going to quote another post but the sites playing up for me!! BBL smile
For many women their status still does go by the male, in most cultures for example, a large part of marriage, is being "given away" from one man - your father, to another man your husband. Now I am not anti marriage, but if I ever do go get there, I will not be given away and I certainly won't be using the word "obey" :giggle: :giggle:
The reason for International Women's Day, was originally about demands for women's rights and now serves as a celebration of where we are, a remberence of where we've been and a reminder of how far we still have to go.
One glaring example - Equal Pay. Despite having equal pay legislation for over 30 years, women still earn on average 17% less than men. If you look at part time workers, then that more than doubles to 38%, and indeed gender pay gaps are prevailent at all ages and job levels. A recent study showed that a 16 year old girl on average earns 16% of what her make counterpart does, and if you average out what this gender pay gap means over a lifetime, then for your average 'mid-skilled level' woman, can potentially earn up to a quarter of a million pounds less than that of a man in the same bracket.
Who says, we still don't have a way to go!
Anyway, enough! I'll get of my soap box! lol

Still waiting for His to acknowledge this  he says that I've got mothers day soon but this is different.
yes I am a mum, but I am also a woman who wants to celebrate womens day lol
i wish all women could get equal rights and oppurtunities in every walk of life without prejudice and discrimination, its totally wrong !!!!!
but on the other hand family law courts where bitter mothers are allowed to use kids as weapons without being pulled up is also wrong!
but on balance most women are lovely, kind and very thoughtful xx

It's true anais, this is something I did a study of at university. It took a man, John Stuart Mill, to make people aware of this more widely.

I totally agree with you, its a special day to me where women from all levels/status in society can get together and celebrate in different ways.

I totlly agree with you Robbie... it does go the other way tho too smile No parent should use their children in such a way.
Fathers rights have got a little better over the last five years... that can be improved upton even more too. Tho, I did get a little cross when a guy dressed as Superman held up my coach on the motor way for hours

It surprising how many women keep the word "obey" in their marriage vows   Was the first part that got cut when I arranged my wedding...

I remember (speed) reading some of his books when I did Womens/Community Studies. Some fascinating studies around... :)
