My spelling is terrible (although I do spot spelling mistakes in Fektart’s posts and make him edit them frequently), my knowledge of grammar and correct use of punctuation verging on non-existent but I think I can still throw together a coherent sentence from time to time. Whether it makes any sense or not is an entirely different matter. I'm far too fond of lazy typing and the overuse of ... which generally means I'm pausing for a think rather than missing bits of text out.
Basically if it makes sense and isn't written it text speak, which is in my opinion just pure laziness, then I'll read it. I have to say, on the whole, I do think people take a little more care and attention with their profiles and adverts than in their forum posts and chatroom messages. I know if I have something long and important to say (please note the deliberate absence of the word interesting) then I'll type it in Word and throw it through a spelling and grammar check first. Just off to do that with this before I click the submit button.
Well i think one of the most obvious places to see the real and true use of English is in the chatrooms.... a place with no room for spell checkers/grammar checkers etc etc.. in a place where you have to rely on your own intellect and ability to string a sentence together...
and in answer to the question .. B.. i much prefer people who have come up with something new and original to say insteaad of saying something sarcastic to 1) decrease boredom 2) increase post count
I am usually pretty strict about grammar and spelling but in the chat room it's a choice, spell it right or keep up.
My main problem with my own typing is this small keyboard.
I keep typing ; instead of '. So I get statements like : I;m going now.
I hate that. But I've given up going back to change it and I've tried to change my hand position to compensate but it doesn't help.
(I had to correct 3 of them in this post alone!!!)
In pms though - I don't appreciate lazy writing - either short, copied or txt-speak statements - I'm worth more than that, we all are.
End of rant - resume your positions. :jagsatwork:
What.. the reception new people get
*bum bum*
