I probably dont care if your a TV CD or even a DVD

Oh Foxy rotflmao :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
I see where you're coming from Foxylady - mind you, I've never ever had a problem with a Big Issue seller, they have always been polite when I've said 'no thanks' , mainly cos I already have 2 copies of the same issue confused
Charities I will often offload change with, buskers too
I love being out and surrounded by people, different people - I don't want to be stuck in town with thousands of people with their heads down as they rush off, either uptown or downtown, to wherever they're going. Market traders too, not the same thing I know, but just love em shouting and bawling 4pnce a pound! :bounce: (even if they do mean a pound :? Just don't sound the same as 4..nce a pound! TM Eddie Izzard :lol2: ), and always with a cockney accent, even tho they might not have ever been to London in their lives lol
The only ones I really do try to avoid are the people that have you standing around for ages! The 'surveyers' and the 'converters' - cos I don't have time and I don't want to sign up for stuff there and then, stuff that will cost me and make some big anonymous company richer - and the converters, cos I am perfectly happy with my life thank you, more than happy, I don't wanna convert to anything!!
Stopping for coffee - well there's nothing better than watching people bustling, mooching about, I'm a people watching addict, love em :bounce: ..... I don't wanna sit having a coffee with me eyes scrolling from side to side a hundred miles an hour as people belt past me, all doing the same thing, looking nowhere, saying nothing while they're doing it :?
I say let them all have a voice (excluding the big company 'survey' thingies) :bounce:

To speak a kind word and to forgive people's faults is better than charity followed by hurt smile
Come one people lets have a group hug and be friends again :).
wow sorry but i have to ask how my asking if street sales people annoy you got onto CDs, TVs, DVDs and big issue's rotflmao
I always tell these people I have a poor credit rating and that it is not worth their while/They don't tend to want to know after that!!

There 2 types of people asking me for my money on the street or by phone – those trying to sell and those looking for charitable donations.
The former I give a polite no and the latter I will give the same or a donation depending on the cause or what I have in my pocket at the time.
It is how they accept the “no” that matters. Most are polite and some try to push it further, those that do are firmly told “no” again and that’s it problem solved -. Remember those that are selling are only trying to earn an honest living, don’t knock someone for that. Not everyone can have high powered jobs – remember these direct sell companies employ these tactics because they do work, usually only with a small minority of people but enough to make it profitable for them.
With regard to Big Issue sellers, I’ve never bought one but I think I now will. I’ve never encountered one that got on my tits, perhaps it is not their intention, perhaps they don’t know how to sell. How many times have we seen people on here trying to sell themselves in an awkward clumsy way. So what if they spend their money on drink or food or whatever, they are doing so out of the profits of what they sell. No different to anyone else. They’re not asking for money for nothing.
This thread has made me think about Big Issue sellers, I’ve never bothered myself with them before.
It is the easy option to dismiss them all as scrounging piss heads!
Just a thought, if the male Big Issue sellers were to wear a dress and a wig, perhaps they would be more successful in the Village.
lol

Personally I love buskers, I have worked as a street performer and know how hard it can be so I always give change to them, I also have no issue with collections, if they passive and will normally go over to give spare change. What I don't like is in your face peeps, would you like electricity, can I just talk to you about a DD for disabled kids, etc etc...
I must admit one persistant person was pursuing a poor lady across a road and I did say to my other half 'I wonder when this constitutes assult and I can hit him?' OK I had no intention of hurting him, as anyone who really knows me would know, but he seemed to take the hint and backed off. Normally I just say not interested, sometimes 3 or 4 times. I give charity when I chose, not when people harass me into it, also no offence but there is a different charity there EVERY week! If I gave a £50 dd to them all my kids would starve, I do what I can, when I can, and pressure never works on me.
ON religious encounters I just have to share my friends solution. First some background, think my size (heavy build, broad) but 7ft (yes he is that tall) and size 15 shoes... Now add a ground scraping black leather coat (custom made), morpheous style hair and glasses... He sees them coming down the street knocking on various doors so has time to get in all this and put on the 'Devil worshipper' song on the CD player....
knock on the door.. opens to reveal a mad grinning 7ft, black leather clad, dark glassed, door filling bloke to background devil worshiper rock music with candle lit hall... 'Come in my friends' he says...
Strange they ran, and were never seen on the estate again ;)
maybe if i had no tits then this wouldnt of got out of hand dunno :dunno: :dunno: rotflmao :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Being a sad (sick humoured) sort of person I love it all ! I have no money, no job, but it really cheers me up wasting other peoples time and money ! heres a few things i get up to ,
Junk Mail...In all those fabulous offers there will invariably be an pre paid envelope . I collect all the mail and stuff as much as I can into it and somtimes selotape it on the back and post it ! often the postal weight exceeds the postage paid but so what ! I'm sure company xyz will be happy to pay the excess when they see all the fabulous offers available !
Religious people.. Please come in and stay....nice chat , maybe later we could all go on a cat stabbing expedition? awww! come back I want to see some more of your stuff, It really makes me so horny !
Street sellers Great, they have no way of checking anything I say, sign me up ! I'm the prince of Denmark I am !
Phone sales , Did you know each call has a commercialy viable time? the longer you chat the more it costs them. I try to keep them on the line for as long as possible using such diversions as you say your calling from company xyz is that in Manchester? really ? where abouts? I had an aunt there, what was your name again? didn't I know you from somwhere ? etc etc etc My longest was about 30 minuites then they hung up !
Well the village is for nice friendly people and probably the liveliest and safest place to go in the whole country where all everyone mixes in perfect harmony. Life’s fuck up’s do not belong there and stand out like a big fat boil.

ALL communities have their 'fuck ups' and have a moral responsibility to support them, even if that just means NOT abusing them.
This has got me thinking a little bit.
Has anyone tipped a McDonalds worker? Probably not. And what for and why?
But you may well tip a shite waiter in a lousy restaurant, following a horrendous meal.
Time, place, people and circumstances, maybe?

The point was to encourage a certain person to think how it would feel like to "walk in anothers shoes", as one minority grouping to another.
You see main stream society is not very tolerant of many sub groupings, and i thought it would be the easiest way to explain how excluded the homeless can feel. But by the looks of it and if i have read a recent post correctly, this dosnt follow and tollerance it would appear, does not transfer easily
Postie asked in an earlier post why bother with this thread as no one was going to change their mind,, fortunately Happy Cats has disproved that, so its nice to see that there are some people on sh with open minds. Btw Happy Cats, Big Issue sellers are trained in the art of sales and customer relations, before they are allowed on to the streets (as in any job there will be those that fail to follow their guidlines) in my experience they are some of the nicest sales people you can meet, especially when you think what they have to put up with.
Jags your right about all societies having their "fuck ups" (what horrible terminology though) and personaly i think you can judge a society by how it treats its i would suggest that sh dosnt do very well overall on hos w it treats those who are not percieved as "normal" for the site?
I find that if you simply say a firm no thanks then people canvassing on the streets will leave you they dont just ignore them and carry on,youve been polite and put your point across.
As a telesales canvasser people do piss me off who cant have a bit of respect for the people who call them, ever think its the shite companies thats the problem not the individual on the phone?Talk about shoot the messenger! If you dont want calls get the TPS then you cant moan anymore.
And as for The Big Issue sellers, theyre doing summat, not sat on their arses and that takes balls and deserves you dont wanna buy one then dont, why winge about it?

if you ment i was reffering to the big issue sellers, down and outs homeless etc. i wasnt jags. someone very close to me was abused by her parents and was forced to run away before they killed her probably. being as she was stabbed by them on many occasion for silly things like not washing up fast enough. she sat outside chip shops hoping that someone would feed her, she lived in squats and had a pretty horrid time untill the parents of someone she new offered her a place to stay. i was reffering to certain people that im dying to meet on here face to face so we can ,shall we say discuss certain things biggrin

Thaks for clariffying that, im afraid i too read it as it appears others had done, and to be honest i couldnt believe what i was reading, glad i was wrong!!

I understand the thing about not having a go at the homeless etc but I don’t understand the “shall we say discuss certain things”.
Has somebody or something upset you in this thread?

Yes, it's painfully obvious that certain people once again hijack threads and twist the point to pick on certain people. IT's ok to openly riducule TV's CD's etc but would it have been acceptable if someone had made a joke that a black person would sell more big issues in Brixton for example ! The hypocrisy of some makes me laugh on here.
I have no leaning towards anyone's personal preferences but it's obvious a lot of threads are used for personal agendas that are to the the detriment of the forum.
If a black person actively campaigned for tolerance and understanding towards black people yet showed intolerance towards another minority, potentially victimised group then, yes, I would offer the same thought.
That is not ridicule, it was not a cheap gag, it was trying to show hypocrisy at work. Obviously went over your head.
I wasn't going to reply to this thread again, but I can't resist, hey.
This thread does seem to have got a bit out of hand and off topic, but here are a few random thoughts....
I have sympathy for genuinely homeless people, but I'd say that a fair amount of the people that beg are not really homeless... take the guy who sits with his dog every day near Preston Railway station... he doesn't pester anyone, he sit quiety and looks miserable - that is all he needs to do to earn up to £100 a DAY by people giving him small change (I know this figure to be true cos he goes and changes his small change for notes in the shop across the road)... .... now come on, I don't earn that much a day - do you? For doing fuck all! And he claims benefits, AND he has a council flat paid for by whom? Not by him that's for sure.
Just consider, if you do give your change to people on the street, what this actually means! A gesture that makes you feel good - but actually, if everyone gave these people 20p it bloody well mounts up. Actaully, I might have a change in career myself
Anyone got change for a cup of tea???
Anyway, the issue of the "homeless" is an aside really.
It's the people who try to sell insurance, accident damage, market research, catalogues etc that are the most annoying and sometime downright aggressive. I really do think that there should be laws against that sort of harrassment. It is slightly different from door to door salespersons or telesales cos it is just sooooo damn intrusive.
Anyways, I am going to continue NOT to give money to anyone on the street, and I'm going to continue to ignore anyone who tries to flog me something that I have not asked for. Call me rude, call me arrogant. yeah I am. SO?
blue this has all got out of hand because of me passing comment on something. In all honesty i feel sad that people now adays carnt express their oppinion without getting judged on talk about society judging but in fact those people are the same judging me for 1 comment, i think its sad that people carnt have freedom of speech without people taking it to heart as if it was a comment passed towards them......................................... i was always brought up to respect people and their oppinions and trust and believe in people untill they give you a reason not to!!!!!!! i never thought everyone would kick off, i used to enjoy it on here but in all honesty its pissed me off, ive never before had such a frosty reception, and i hope them people are happy with making me feel insecure in respect to my oppinion.
4 years ago when i was at school we used to have debate classes you know on abortion etc.............. even on racisim and people were 100% honest with the way they felt, but people who could relate to the comment i.e people of different race were not affected buy this once we left the respected everyone else's view and thoughts and we used to debate and argue in this session once it had finish the school NEVER has trouble really with kids as this was the time to express the way you felt without being judged for it.
Its a shame adults carnt put this into action, and comments like along the lines of "i carnt wait to meet this people face to face" is quite childish, infering that something will be do about this thread. Personally i take that comment as a threat but, people are intitled to anything they want to say. Maybe one day mutual respect will actually come into place and then maybe these sort of things wouldnt happen?????

hmmmmmmm
wasnt this about street canvassers and phone reps
you lot really need to go chill out
as for giveing money to street people
i thank god for the kind people who took pity on me they truely were my saviours
they saved my life with the odd spare change they gave
and not everyone chooses to become homeless and have to beg
to live
you lot wanna go try it
and stop being so judgemental
There is one thing I do not do.
I never give to someone who has a dog which looks better fed than the owner.

Too right.
Another so called homeless person used to sit on Wigan bus station with a cute little dog that always won the sympathy vote from people. I had a dog myself in those days. One day I was going for the bus having just bought some packs of dog food and dog biscuits. I offered the "homeless" girl some dog food to feed her dog. She refused it and said she'd rather have the money. Funny that.
