Yes they are but we are dependant on ads being reported. There are far too many now for us to go searching through in the hope of finding a bad one!!

I have a question.... last evening while getting to grips with placing a ad of sorts and generally mucking about with all the new toys etc, I mused that as this is becoming a pay site in future then would people be less inclined to put crap ads in ? I also reported an "ad " for viagra ! what is it with this stuff ! You can get it Free on the NHS !!!!
nah i think the ads will still stay the same just a lot more of them as its free to register on the site & to place an ad :?
the mods seem to be doing as much as they can but we seem to have lost a couple & with all the new members/ads they are up against the wall abit
think a situations vacant section for new mods would be a good idea take the pressure off the ones we have

I don't know if it would be tech. possible but y know you can set your browser or buy stuff to filter offensive things while searching the net etc, so then could not a short program be run from the website when uploading ads that would detect key words eg viagra, buy, pay, business etc etc and not allow those ads to be posted ?

:? :lol:And the search facility isn't being optimised for Firefox cos it's low down the list of priorities so I'm not going to be searching around the ads at all!
Any dodgy ads you see use the report this ad facility - let's ALL take responsiblity for keeping the site clear of the sewage, eh. And stop whining at the Mods cos it ISN'T OUR FAULT!

We are here, honest, we are trying our best but it is not easy. The site is getting bigger with loads more stupid twatty ads being posted and reported. We also have other things to do back stage so I'm in hiding :thumbup:

We are all probably as much to blame! I know that I have seem some ads which have broke the AUP but I then think that they are only slightly bending it rather than a full blown break and we know the Mods are having a tough time of it at the moment and I dont want to make more work for them!
When I have seen a couple of the dogging ads where people have been advertising and naming sites, I have sent a message to the person and all but one of them have then changed their ads. But the ones which are clearly breaking the AUP, I will report.

while I must agree that picture uploads need to be "seen " to be complained about , it is the text and obvious dishonesty that annoys me. I am sure that a simple modification to the SW website program as I outlined would remove a percentage of false ads and also maybe make the task of moderating a lot easier . I also note that there is allways a risk in reply to ANY ad even if it seems on the level, you could find that the placer has some hidden agenda or other which will only come to light when a complaint is re'cd. There will allways be chancers in any form of "personal contact" and when you really think about it, even as a man, I do not fancy going to some layby in the middle of nowhere to meet some stranger whom I have never met without some sort of backup !
As someone who has been a member through the "change", i think that the ads in the two catagories that I regularly look at have improved no end. Sure, there was a time when for every one ad from a woman in "ladies looking for men", there was three ads from men, but now there even seems to be a reduction of those who have "hubby only wants to watch and may join in".
This site has taken a lot of critisism recently, some of it deserving, for it`s faults but it seems that the mods are doing their job admirably.

There was no mention of allowing children to have access to the site, but some people in fact a lot of people, do have children and those children can accidently walk past while you are on the computer.

Zana, I fully agree 100% that it is the parents responsibility, but that is not what I was responding to, it was in response to NLondonJohns comment about allowing children access to the site.
As for not using the site when children could accidentaly walk past, well maybe we should just ban all parents from using it incase their children get up in the night and walk into the room,

I seem to remember that under the old regime, (pre take over) the banner ad was rather explicit (far more so than I would want my kids to see) and yet no one complained about that!!

The old banner could easily be prevented by a good pop up blocker ...
