yes well, I hope it gets stuck up your nose! blink
I studied sociology a year or two ago (ok, decade or so if anyone wants to be picky) and this was one of the topics then, and opinions were as mixed then as now.
I work, hubby works, our children work. Therefore working class. We all own our own homes, have had university education (except jamey, a graduate of the university of life and hard knocks) and could therefore be said to have had middle class aspirations. But does it matter? Who cares these days about social divisions? I teach and hopefully all the little darlings who pass through the school will have no worries about class division, ethnicity, gender and glass ceilings.
If I'm shagged by one of prince charlies boys does the resulting offspring become posh and upper class or does it stay a pleb? lol

'In British, Irish and Australian English pleb is a derogatory term for someone thought of as inferior, common or ignorant. A pleb is seen as the lowest form of society and the highest form of loser.'
Well, for an educated person and an educator, your ignorance amazes me. rolleyes

Where did you get that from?
"pleb" is a shortened form of "plebeian" , from the latin "plebius" - meaning of the common people. Used in a perfectly acceptable way in this jokey post.

Working, doing class; make things, keep things going.
Thinkers; invent new thing.
Middle class; traders, compleat waste of space.
Mr Adams we salute you.
Whether we like it or not a class system does exist in some areas of life... me? I'm a working class woman! lol
Some things that stick in my mind have got better over the years are what class meant for women, for example: women who married went up in society, if they divorced they went back down the ladder again...if was always based on the males job what class you were. I remember also dealing with a woman (back in the late 80's) who couldn't claim income support in her own name/right as she had a partner, he had to claim and hence blew the money on drink leaving her and the children penniless etc...
I used to get quite cross with British Gas as they always sent the bill to Mr A, even though I was divorced for 10 yrs an he never lived with me at that address. So I refused to pay the bill until they put Ms A on it.. finicky I know but it always bugged me!
Education, when I applied to go to Uni back in the early 90's I didn't get in the fist year (few did from this side of the river - from the skills stats most are cleaners, admin workers or criminals). As I walked out of the door after the interview for a place the tutor patted me on the shoulder and said *apply again next year, we need more working class women applying for Uni places* rolleyes
Owning your own home put you up a bracket... income made a difference and still does, where you live... list goes on!
Then there's the underclass... if you believe in it
I still believe a class divide exists and its getting wider yet again.... confused

That really pisses me off as well. I'm the one who deals with all the bills, opens accounts etc., yet his name is always first or the only name. I recently opened a joint bank account. They 'phoned to ask something and wanted to speak to MrFB. I asked why as it's a joint account which I opened for us. They couldn't give me an answer, so I put him on and every question they asked, he had to ask me then tell them! confused He put me back on and I asked why, again. They've sent a form out for MrFB to sign, giving me authority to deal with the account banghead Bloody hopping mad, I was.

Yep, I agree.

I never questioned how hard people work,I merely wondered about the true value of that root of any economy/society is what it produces, the harridan Thatcher failed to recognise this and we all paid and are paying the price.
The media and political classes of our country have since then derided and belittled the working classes, when once we were the salt of the earth we are now all chavs ,poorly educated lager louts and scum.
So when you tell me about your paperwork in such an affronted manner consider that everyday in some paper or news report me and mine are insulted and mocked,I am offended I am angry and I have no compunction about repaying this in kind.
I repeat (with a caveat) the middle classes are and have been historically parasites, their livings are earned on the sweat of another mans brow....caveat I would exclude to a large extent though not entirely the medical and teaching proffesions

Classic inverted snobbery. People are people and should be valued for what they are and how they interact with others, not from some perceived notion of 'class'. The working class are not 'chavs, poorly educated lager louts and scum'. Chavs, poorly educated lager louts and scum do exist, and come from every strata of society, the difference being the cost of their bling and the quality of their booze.
Blaming another 'class' for your problems is usually done either to make yourself feel better about your own inadequacies or because of envy, neither being attractive traits. No one who puts in a good days work is a parasite, whatever they do. That doesn't mean that everyone who doesn't work is a parasite, but there are too many who are, whether they are living on the sweat of taxpayers or of their families or of others weaknesses.
So by all means be offended and angry, but direct that anger at something more useful than blaming other workers just because you don't understand the value of their work.
just a thanks to Jaymar and Phuckers! Hugs to you both for lightening up a dull and boring day!
Now try and be extra wonderful and please try and explain to one that enjoys comfort and the little luxuries usually found in bottles with corks (ok, screwcaps these days usually) how a hubby can enjoy running around for hours in the mud shooting little balls of paint at other people trying to shoot back!
Then, in an hour or two, the little darling will come back needing a beer or seven and then sit and watch 22 grown men kicking a ball about!
Is there medical treatment available for this condition? If so, is it on the NHS? lol

My 4 best friends are in order -an accountant ,a bank manager ,a civil engineer and a librarian -I value all of them as people but only two of their I'm an inverted snob ,then so be it.I blame no one for my problems or the problems of my class they are largely self inflicted,I do however recognise what needs to change in our society,as you rightly say we should value people for what they are,I challenge you to find in tomorrows british media anything that shows the british working classes in a favourable light,if we are to value other people whatever their status perhaps it needs to be a two way street.
