Yes and yes.
From Cambridge Online Dictionary:
middle class
a social group that consists of well-educated people, such as doctors, lawyers, and teachers, who have good jobs and are neither very rich nor very poor:
The upper middle class tend to go into business or the professions, becoming, for example, lawyers, doctors or accountants.
working class
a social group that consists of people who earn little money, often being paid only for the hours or days that they work, and who usually do physical work:
The working class usually react/reacts in a predictable way to government policies.

very well,of course being a university dictionary they will define it in a way to put off the students from leaving before completing their courses, but a working class is not often low paid some have worked hard and having a higher standard of life some middle class can only dream of

From Merriam-Webster, a non-university dictionary:
'working class
the class of people who work for wages usually at manual labor
middle class
a class occupying a position between the upper class and the lower class; especially : a fluid heterogeneous socioeconomic grouping composed principally of business and professional people, bureaucrats, and some farmers and skilled workers sharing common social characteristics and values'
You asked if there is a difference.
Yes, there is.
There was a time when the 'classes' were distinguished by their income.
the working class earned from manual labour.
the middles class earned by using their brains.
the upper class earned by profits from investments, doing no work as such.
However there are less manual skills jobs and more middle class jobs where intellect is needed. Also many of these can overlap eg a self employed builder can use as much intellect in running the business, whereas during the day he may well be swinging a lump hammer and bolster.
Many middle classes sit in front of computers in the belief that they are doing something highly intelligent. In fact in many cases its quite simplistic and repetitive and really no different from factory work.
Also one can choose between getting into the frantic stressed out jobs and more mundane manual stuff, whereas at one time that was not possible.
err what class is educated and qualified plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, builders and self employed belong?

true, they are a pain in the bum.....David Beckham a working class who has employed middle class i.e accountants, lawyers and private teachers for his kids
Middle Class: A section of the population who tend to think that if they go a long way into debt they can pretend to be upper class.
Working Class: By and large a section of the population who epitomise pragmatism, lowish wages, commonsense, and look at the middle class and laugh.
Now I wonder which readers are going to take the above seriously?
working class = the unemployed
middle class = people on a salary who do 2 or 3 people's work, thus making the working class unemployed
upper class = lonely evil bastards
You know what - who gives a toss? Maybe the ones who think they are something they aren't? dunno
It's just another label.

That pretty much sums up Middle-class
It doesn't matter what class you are 'labelled' in. We ought to be treated the same whether we are lower class, middle class, or upper class.
My pet hate are 'labels'

Agreed.
I don't think the majority of us worry about the class system these days, you are what you are and you are brought in the same environment that your parents were brought up in. We all poo once a day don't we? dunno
Years ago it was very important, it was mostly about education wasn't it? and you would never be allowed to marry someone from a different class. These days most people can marry 'up their class' or 'down their class' whereas years ago there was no chance.
I think the only people who like the class system to remain are probably royalty or the very rich and very upper class.
It's a shame that a lot of things in life are dicated by money because in reality I've been educated in a state school and educationally I'm probably on the same level as a person who's gone to private school the only difference is financially I've had to work harder.
