Close Shaves.......(not sure whether this has already been done or not but here goes!)
Ever had an experience and come away thinking "Phew that was a close one!" Nearly met the maker and all that? Here's two of mine to start with:
1. Whilst in my scouting days I once jumped of a platform which was only a couple of metres off the ground. Not a big deal. However I failed to notice a piece of rope (god knows how!) strung between some roof joists. In the process of jumping down this piece of rope got trapped under my neck and nearly garotted me! Rope burn and bruised ego aside I got away with it.
2. Skating on ice one year (well I thought it was a good idea at the time) in a local field I thought it was about time I had a breather. Instead of retreating to the safety of land I stood happy as Larry in the middle of this frozen ice sheet. Yep you guessed it the ice gave way. Luckily for me it was only a few ft deep. Frozen to the bone and testicles so tight they'd put a duck's arse to shame I trudged off home to explain to mum how I ended up in this predicament!
Over to you folks!

Oh yes.....
A couple of years ago I was Snowboarding in the French Alps. We were staying in Tigne but went out at night in Val D'Isere.
I had gotten friendly with a rather lovely young Aussie and had elected to remain with her when my friends left for the hotel.
The night wore on and it became apparent that we were both staying in Tigne (sweet) so the plan was to go back to hers.
We piled into a People Carrier Taxi with some strangers and got dropped off in Tigne. When we got out the Aussie chick had decided that it probably wasnt cool for me to stay (she wassharing a room with a friend etc etc!!) so we kissed, said goodbye and went our separate ways.
It was only at this point did I realise that I did not recognise any of my surroundings. It was approx 4am, -25 celcius, there was no one around, no cabs, no bars open - nothing.
It then became apparent that there are 3 resorts all under the umbrella name of Tigne and theres quite a few kilometers between them!!
The last couple of Sambucas I had drunk in the bar were just kicking in and probably kept the cold a bay (abit) so I pulled my coat (and it was just a regular coat) over my head and my jumper down as far as I could and then mustered every ounce of resolve to walk the 6 or 7 Kms home.
When I got to the resort I was staying at (Val Claret I believe) I saw my hotel at the end of some very windy roads. I also noticed a large expanse of open ground that led directly to the Hotel.
I decided to take the direct route (with temperatures as cold as they were it really was much more appealing than the long winding road) - so I trudge off in the snow for about 5 paces before I dissapear into what can only be descibed as 'Quick Snow'
Floundering around in that powder snow I really thought I was a gonner - I made my peace with this world and was preparing for the next one.
Eventually I managed to drag myself out of the snow by pulling myself out with the use of a nearby corrugated iron fence picket - it was so cold my fingers were sticking to it but ripping the skin on my fingers seemed preferable at that moment in time to drowning in Powder!!
When I made it back to the Hotel I found my friend asleep in the Hall way - we had maged to jam the door to the room some how so after being blown out by aussie chick and my ordeal with the snow I then had to sleep on the floor outside my room!!!

That certainly is close
In my younger more boy racer ish days me and molly where coming back from a lovley weekend in wales early in the morning and I decide to start racing a ford probe (in my 1.4 escort I know, I know) anyway we hit a particulary bad bend and I loose control wheels lock up thankfully at the time I had no idea what to do and simply hit a fence across the road as I did I caught a glimpse of a HGV coming the other way down the road seconds after!
If id had a better car or knew how to control a skid we'd have been toast.
I was nearly run over recently. I was tired and my head was somewhere else. Managed to look up at the very last minute and avoided it. If I hadn`t have looked up there was no way on earth the driver would have avoided me.
The following weekend a pedestrian was run over and killed on the same stretch of road.
Years ago my daughter came in crying, she`d been running down the path with a sharp stick, she tripped, and you could see where the sharp end of the stick had managed to scratch her deeply all the way up the chest, and finally dug into her throat. Thank god it didn`t impale her deeper.
As a young teen a friend became drunk at my house, I tried to get her home via a footpath which crossed a railway line, seeing a train come, she stood there giggling and waving at it. I pushed her out of the way, and not realising which one was the live rail, almost pushed her onto it.
Oh, and received a god awful electric shock during the clean up operation after the hurricaine of `87. Some clever dick reconnected our power as I was trying to retrieve a bike from under the roof of our garage, I wasn`t aware I was pregnant at the time. Seeing said feotus in her teens, I`d say it explains a lot
confused
It`s a wonder some of us are still here!

Boxing Day night, 1996 I sledged the entire length of the very steep, winding Donkey Path which runs alongside the 199 steps leading up to Whitby Abbey* on a For Sale sign, crashed into the iron railings at the very bottom. Some friendly alkies from a nearby pub covered me with their coats until the ambulance arrived. Got away with a few bruises and a sprained muscle. Had to walk/limp home from the hospital though and I lived at the top of the bloody 199 steps!!
* anyone who knows Whitby will know exactly what that path is like. Have found a picture of it online but no idea how to put it on here. Computer illiterate.
Earlier this year I choked on a chip (yes, I know! A bloody chip!). It took several minutes of lying on the kitchen floor gasping for breath before my mother was convinced I wasn't faking it, and thumped me for ages before it shot out. Really did think I was on my way out that time.
Got hit by a car (Whitby again - the place is a bloody death-trap). Nasty bruise on my thigh but could've been a lot worse had the car not been slowing down for the traffic lights.
Walked away from a couple of car-crashes including one driven by a guy who later went on to crash a car that put my friend in a coma and left brain damaged, and her boyfriend brain damaged and in a wheelchair.
